The Feast of the Holy Family

This season offers us the opportunity to spend time with family, or at least reflect on the meaning of family in our
lives. Currently in the American Catholic culture, we notice that generally each succeeding generation is less
interested in church than the previous generation was. This has long-term implications for future staffing, facilities,
and many other aspects of future church life. The Shrine’s location in a vibrant downtown neighborhood has
mitigated some of the associated problems, but it has not made them vanish entirely.

If you have insights or reflections on your positive or negative experience in trying to pass on your faith to later
generations, I’d be interested in hearing about them. In your experience, what works and what doesn’t? How does
the American culture help or hinder your attempts to pass on your faith? Are there things that the Shrine or the larger
Catholic Church could do to assist people in passing on their stories of faith? How do we best support one another in
this endeavor? Each of us should examine our personal faith story and identify the most inspiring aspects of that
story. What’s the best way to tell that story? Who needs to hear it? Are we all trying hard enough to pass on our
story?

May your story of faith inspire and enlighten family and friends in the coming week.

Year-End Gifts
As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Shrine. There are a number of
ways to make this gift.
1. Cash/check - may be given in person or via the U.S mail. Please note that the gift must be postmarked by December 31 to be
counted for a 2017 tax deduction.
2. Credit card – Make a gift on line – www.stanthonyshrine.org with a credit card. Or, you may call the Development Office (857-
206-7243) and give your credit card over the telephone. Our electronic giving kiosks in the lobby, and at the information booth are
two other options for credit card gifts.
3. IRA Charitable Rollover – If you or someone you know is 70 ½ or older and has a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA),
you can use your required minimum distribution to support the Shrine through a Charitable Rollover gift. Contact the administrator
of your plan and ask that your distribution be a charitable rollover to the Shrine.
4. Matching Gifts – A corporate matching gift is a tremendous way to increase your personal gift to the Shrine. We encourage you to
take advantage of your employer’s matching gift program.
Thank you for all you do to help us live out the Gospel in Boston. Please continue to pray for all those whom we serve with love
and compassion. If you have questions about making a gift, please contact Maryanne Rooney-Hegan at (617) 542-6440 ext. 115.
