PART 1 BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT
KJT-270
1.1 Overview
The KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer is designed for use on a desk. Please exercise
caution with regard to the following:
(1) Although every component of KJT-270 complies with Japanese laws governing the
safety of electrical products, it is nonetheless necessary to ensure that the ground
terminals are properly connected to prevent possible shock hazards.
(2) Make sure that the operating voltage of the analyzer is the same as the voltage of your
local power supply.
(3) When replacing the fuse, be sure to use only 3A-rated fuses. An extra 3A fuse is
supplied with the KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer.
(4) Please place KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer on the flat desk without shaking.
(5) Do not give any shock to KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer.
(6) Do not put anything on KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer.
(7) Never disassemble the equipment. The analyzer optical system was precisely
adjusted at the time of shipment, and damage incurred as a result of unnecessary
disassembly is excluded from warranty coverage.
(8) Use KJT-270 only in ambient temperature 0 ~ 40℃ without condensation.
(9) Please do not use the KJT-270 Near Infrared Analyzer in the dusty site.
(10) Please wipe off the zero correction board when it gets stained.
(11) Do not use the near flammable or explosive materials.

PART 2 THE MEASUREMENT METHOD
USED BY THIS ANALYZER
This analyzer uses a measurement method entirely different from the drying and Karl
Fischer methods that are generally used for determining the quantity of water in a mass.
Unlike these methods, this analyzer uses an infrared measurement system.

2.1 Principles of Water Absorption

The absorption band of water has three wavelengths in the near-infrared spectrum area, 1.2,
1.45, and 1.94 micrometers. When a sample is irradiated with light of these wavelengths,
the sample will absorb light in an amount commensurate with its moisture content. The
sample’s moisture content determines how much light the sample will absorb. This
moisture content can therefore be determined by measuring the light attenuation produced
by the sample. However, measurement using only the absorption wavelengths can
produce inaccurate results because of extraneous factors such as the surface condition,
particle size, and color of the sample. To eliminate these extraneous factors, this infrared
analyzer employs a method which produces an additional near-infrared light, or “reference
wavelength,” that is not easily absorbed by water. This analyzer irradiates the sample
with the both the absorption wavelengths and the reference wavelength. It then compares
the reflectivity between the lights of both wavelengths, arriving at a ratio that is then
converted into a moisture content value.

6
2.2 Reasons for Using the Calibration Curve
The infrared analyzer converts the near-infrared absorption measurement into a
moisture-content value. This requires that expressions be used to measure real content
values according to the degree of infrared absorption. These expressions will differ for each
sample, making it necessary to construct the proper calibration curve prior to carrying out
the measurement operation. This calibration curve can be obtained by a simple operation.
Please refer to [8.3 Setting Calibration Curve].

3.4 Proper Grounding Precautions

This device complies with all Japanese government regulations for electrical equipment.
It is still necessary, however, to ensure that the frame is connected to the ground to
minimize the risk of electrical shock.

The KJT-270’s design incorporates a noise filter and an insulation-switching regulator. In

the noise filter, 100V is directed into two 50V paths by the condenser. Thus, if the
connection with the ground is insufficient, a weak electrical current may result inasmuch as
50V was already charged at the moment you first touched the device.
Please connect the ground tightly in order to minimize the risk of electrical shock.

several sheets of them in the container.
④ If the sample's grain is rather large, for example rice, wheat, and soy
beans. It is better to smash it to be powdered condition in order to obtain
the more precise calibration.

Note: We recommend using the supplied sample container to obtain precise

calibration.

(1) Automatic Zero Correction Function
When powering the meter:
After the password has been entered or the ENT key has been pushed, “-” will
appear in the data indicator. The meter will then take the inside temperature
into consideration and start automatic zero correction. “O A d j” will appear in
the data indicator. When the zero correction is over, the meter sets itself to
measurement mode.
If there is a sample on the turntable, remove it, otherwise the data indicator will
show “rEAdy”.

When the usual measurement mode is set:

The meter will perform the automatic zero correction every 60 minutes except
while the sample is on the turntable or keyboard is being used. Zero correction
will begin after the sample is cleared or the keyboard operation is over.

PART 11 REPLACING PARTS
These procedures for replacing each part are considered that the customer can perform
the operation safely. Please read this before you start the operation

11.1 Replacing the Fuse.

Be sure to use a 3A-rated fuse as a replacement. Never use a fuse with a rating that
exceeds 3A.

Fuse Specifications

Rating: 250V-3A
Size: 5.2 mm diameter, 20mm length
Type: Glass tube
Safety: Conforms with Japanese standards for electrical
products
Recommended Mfr.: Fuji Tanshi
Recommended Type: ULCSAFGMT

If the power cable is plugged in but the analyzer doesn’t operate, it is possible that the
analyzer fuse has been overloaded. To replace the analyzer fuse, first turn off the
power switch on the back of the analyzer and unplug the power cord.
(1) Pull out the inlet plug from the inlet socket for the power cord on the back of the
analyzer.
(2) Remove the cover at the back of the analyzer and remove the fuse from the fuse
holder and verify that it has indeed melted.

(3) Make sure also that there are no exposed or cut portions of the core. If there are,
please contact your dealer for repair.
*If the fuse has not melted, there may be a problem with the analyzer; please consult
your dealer.
(4) If you cannot find any problems with the connected cables, go ahead and insert the
new fuse into the fuse holder, making sure to use a fuse as specified above.
(5) Insert the power cable plug firmly into an AC100V (50/60Hz) outlet.
(Note: if the analyzer has been plugged in but does not appear to be receiving any
power,
please disconnect the plug immediately, as there may be a problem with the device.
Please consult your dealer for repair.)
