He reached the Company's station.

With the pinch of sarcasm Marlow describes the things he saw, a

soldier, a large hole, rotting machines. He was appalled at seeing a line of 6 black people going one
after another at a sinchronous pace, all connected with iron chanes. - This is the first sight of slavery.
He was surprised that these people were called criminals. There were occasional explosions and he
stumbled upon a large hole the purpose of which he couldn't divine. Not far away, in a shade of some
sort, he saw a group of black people left there to die - emaciated, starved, skinny, infirm and fible.

He came upon a Company's chief accountant all clad in white. Marlow shook hands with this miracle
and spent the next 10 days with him in a hut. This was the first time Marlow heard of Mr. Kurtz who
was in charge of a trading post stationed at the very end, down there. He was the best collector of
ivory.
The chief accountant was insesitive, crude and couldn't care less about the homeward-bound agent,
the grove of death outside and the savages (as he called them).

40th day - Marlow left the station with a caravan of 60 men. All the villages he went though were
abandoned. Solitude took its toll. At this moment we can discern a slight change in Marlow's
behavior the change of which Marlow was aware too.

55th day - Marlow reached the Central Station
