3 7.3 Management frame body components

4 7.3.2 Information elements

5 7.3.2.9 Country information element

6 Change Figure 43 as shown (essentially, replace Figure 43):

7
8 Change the second paragraph as shown:

9 The element identifier for this information element shall be 7. The length of the information element is
10 variable, as the element may contain more than one triplet comprising the First Channel Number, Number
11 of Channels, and Maximum Transmit Power Level fields, referred to as subband triplets. Alternatively,
12 where dot11RegulatoryClassesRequired is true, and the First Channel Number/Regulatory Extension
13 Identifier octet has a positive integer value of 201 or greater, then that triplet is comprised of Regulatory
14 Extension Identifier, Regulatory Class, and Coverage Class, and together are referred to as a regulatory
15 triplet. The minimum length of the information element is 8 octets.

16 Change the fourth paragraph as shown:

17 The First Channel Number/Regulatory Extension Identifier field shall be 1 octet in length. If the field has a
18 positive integer value less than 201, then it shall contain a positive integer value that indicates the lowest
19 channel number in the subband described in this information element. The group of channels described by
20 each pair of the First Channel Number and the Number of Channels fields shall not have overlapping
21 channel identifiers. [For example, the pairs (2,4) and (5,2) overlap and shall not be used together.] The First
22 Channel Numbers shall be monotonically increasing where dot11RegulatoryClassesRequired is not true.

1 Where dot11RegulatoryClassesRequired is true, consecutive subband triplets following a regulatory triplet

2 shall have monotonically increasing First Channel Numbers.

3 Insert after the sixth paragraph and renumber tables as necessary:

4 A Regulatory Class is an index into a set of values for radio equipment sets of rules.

5 The Regulatory Class field shall be 1 octet in length.

6 A Coverage Class is an index into a set of values for aAirPropagationTime.

7 The Coverage Class field shall be 1 octet in length.

8 The CoverageClass field of the regulatory triplet specifies the aAirPropagationTime used in BSS operation,
9 as shown in table 21. aAirPropagationTime describes variations in actual propagation time that are
10 accounted for in a BSS, and together with Maximum Transmit Power Level allow control of BSS diameter.

3 17.1 Introduction

4 Delete the second sentence

5 Insert the following text at the end of the clause and renumber the annex reference as necessary:

6 The OFDM system also provides a ‘half-clocked’ operation using 10 MHz channel spacings with data
7 communications capabilities of 3, 4.5, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, and 27 Mbit/s. The support of transmitting and
8 receiving at data rates of 3, 6, and 12 Mbit/s is mandatory when using 10 MHz channel spacing. The ‘half-
9 clocked’ operation doubles symbol times and CCA times when using 10 MHz channel spacing. The
10 regulatory requirements and information regarding use of this OFDM system in 4.9 GHz and 5 GHz bands
11 is in Annex J, the Regulatory Classes annex.

16 for 10 MHz channel spacing

17 17.2.2.2 TXVECTOR DATARATE

18 Change the last sentence as shown:

19 Data rates of 6, 12, and 24 Mbit/s shall be supported for 20 MHz channel spacing, and data rates of 3, 6 and
20 12 Mbit/s shall be supported where 10 MHz channel spacing is supported; other rates may also be
21 supported.

22 17.2.3 RXVECTOR parameters

23 Change the text of the Value field of DATARATE:

24 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, and 54 Mbit/s for 20 MHz channel spacing, 3, 4.5, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, and 27 Mbit/s
25 for 10 MHz channel spacing

26 17.2.3.3 DATARATE

27 Change the last sentence as shown:

28 The allowed values of the DATARATE are 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, or 54 Mbit/s for 20 MHz channel

9 Delete the last sentence of the first paragraph

10 17.3.8.3.2 Channel numbering

11 Change the clause as follows:

12 Channel center frequencies are defined at every integral multiple of 5 MHz above 5 GHz
13 Channelstartingfrequency. The relationship between center frequency and channel number is given by
14 Equation (32):

15 Channel center frequency = 5000 Channelstartingfrequency + (nch × 5 MHz) (32)

16 where

17 nch = 0,1,… 200,

18 and Channelstartingfrequency is defined as dot11ChannelStartingFactor × 500 kHz; or defined as 5 GHz

1 dot11ChannelStartingFactor = 10 000 indicates that Channel zero center frequency is 5.000 GHz. The
2 value NULL for nch shall be reserved, and a channel center frequency of 5.000 GHz shall be indicated by
3 dot11ChannelStartingFactor = 8 000 and nch = 200. An SME managing multiple channel sets can change
4 the channel set being managed by changing the value of dot11ChannelStartingFactor.

5 This definition provides a unique numbering system for all channels with 5 MHz spacing, as well as the
6 flexibility to define channelization sets for all current and future regulatory domains.

7 17.3.8.3.3 Channelization

8 Change the first sentence as shown and renumber as necessary:

9 The set of operating channel numbers by regulatory domain is defined in Table 94 Annex J.

10 Insert after the first sentence:

11 As shown in Figure 121, no subcarrier is allocated on the channel center frequency.

12 Delete the remainder of the clause, including Table 94 and Figure 123, and renumber as necessary

13 17.3.8.4 Transmit and receive in-band and out-of-band spurious emissions

14 Delete the second sentence

15 17.3.8.6 Slot time

16 Change the paragraph as follows:

17 The slot time for the OFDM PHY shall be 9 µs for 20 MHz channel spacing, (< 4 µs ), and shall be 13 µs
18 for 10 MHz channel spacing. The propagation delay shall be regarded as being included in the CCA detect
19 time.

20 Where dot11RegulatoryClassesRequired is true, the value of the slot time shall be increased by the value of
21 3 µs × coverage class. The default value of coverage class shall be zero.

22 NOTE—DCF operation over larger BSS diameters is facilitated by relaxing some PHY timing parameters, while
23 maintaining compatibility with existing implementations in small BSS diameters.

24 17.3.9.1 Transmit power levels

25 Change the sentence as shown, delete Table 95 and renumber as necessary:

26 The maximum allowable transmit power by regulatory domain is shown in Table 95 defined in Annex J.

27 17.3.9.2 Transmit spectrum mask

28 Change the initial sentence as shown:

29 For operation using 20 MHz channel spacing, Tthe transmitted spectrum shall have a 0 dBr (dB relative to
30 the maximum spectral density of the signal) bandwidth not exceeding 18 MHz, -20 dBr at 11 MHz
31 frequency offset, -28 dBr at 20 MHz frequency offset and -40 dBr at 30 MHz frequency offset and above.

6 J.1 Introduction

7 (informative)
8 This annex provides information and requirements extending the Clause 17 OFDM PHY specification for
9 operation in the United States, Europe, and the 4.9 GHz and 5 GHz bands in Japan. The OFDM system
10 provides a wireless LAN with data payload communication capabilities of 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, and 54
11 Mbit/s in 20 MHz channels, and 3, 4.5, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 and 27 Mbit/s in 10 MHz channels.

12 Wireless LANs implemented in accordance with this standard and the specifications and definitions
13 referenced therein are subject to equipment certification and operating requirements established by regional
14 and national regulatory administrations. The specification establishes minimum technical requirements for
15 interoperability, based upon established regulations at the time this standard was issued. These regional and
16 national regulations are subject to revision, or may be superseded. Regulatory requirements that do not
17 affect interoperability are not addressed in this standard. Implementers are referred to the regulatory
18 sources in Table J.1 for further information. Operation in countries within defined regulatory domains may
19 be subject to additional or alternative national regulations.

20 The documents listed in Table J.1 specify the current regulatory requirements for various geographic areas
21 at the time this standard was developed. They are provided for information only, and are subject to change
22 or revision at any time.

1 a
NOTE—Frequency planning for licensed STAs in Japan is performed by the regulatory authority and the licensees,
2 addressing the coexistence among stations operating with a variety of air propagation times, and coexistence between
3 those using 20 MHz channel spacing and those operating with 10 MHz channel spacing. Note also the CCA mechanism
4 is preserved in licensed operation.

6 J.2 Country information element and regulatory classes

7 (normative)
8 The Country information element allows a station to configure its PHY and MAC for operation when the
9 regulatory triplet of Regulatory Extension Identifier, Regulatory Class, and Coverage Class are present. The
10 regulatory triplet indicates both PHY and MAC configuration characteristics and operational
11 characteristics. The First Channel Number of subsequent subband triplet(s) is based on the
12 dot11ChannelStartingFactor that is indicated by the Regulatory Class field.

13 J.2.1 Regulatory class specifications

14 A Regulatory Class for the OFDM PHY is an index into a set of values for radio equipment sets of rules

15 ChannelStartingFrequency is a frequency, used together with a Channel Number to calculate a channel

16 center frequency.

17 Channel Spacing is the frequency difference between non-overlapping adjacent channel center frequencies.

7 J.3.3 Transmit spectrum mask

8 For operation using 20 MHz channel spacing in the United States, Europe, and Japan, the transmitted
9 spectrum shall have a 0 dBr (dB relative to the maximum spectral density of the signal) bandwidth not
10 exceeding 18 MHz, -20 dBr at 11 MHz frequency offset, -28 dBr at 20 MHz frequency offset and -40 dBr
11 at 30 MHz frequency offset and above. For operation using 10 MHz channel spacing, the transmitted
12 spectrum shall have a 0 dBr bandwidth not exceeding 9 MHz, -20 dBr at 5.5 MHz frequency offset, -28
13 dBr at 10 MHz frequency offset and -40 dBr at 15 MHz frequency offset and above. The measurements
14 shall be made using a 100 kHz resolution bandwidth and a 30 kHz video bandwidth.

15 For operation in Japan, the average power emitted in adjacent and alternate adjacent channels of the same
16 Channel Width shall be less than –3 dBr and –18 dBr respectively for both the 4.9 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands,
17 measured relative to the EIRP in the 100 kHz at the channel edges and the band edges. For operation in
18 Japan in the 5.15-5.25 GHz band, the average power emitted in adjacent and alternate adjacent channels
19 shall be lower than average on-channel power by 25 dB and 40 dB respectively.

20 NOTE—Figure J.3 shows this for 20 MHz channel spacing, and Figure J.4 shows this for 10 MHz channel spacing.
21 There are no special spreading requirements for any particular channel. The alternate adjacent channel(s) are adjacent
22 to the channels adjacent to a given channel.
