1. This form is to be completed by Head of Department and submitted to Faculty’s Vice-Dean (Graduate Studies)
at least 3 months before thesis is expected to be submitted for examination so as to avoid delay in
the examination process.
2. Number of examiners required:
• Master’s thesis – 2 examiners (either 1 internal examiner and 1 external examiner or 2 internal examiners)
• Doctoral thesis – 3 examiners (at least 1 external examiner)*
*Please note that the oral examination panel will be a subset of the thesis examination panel,
of which 2 of them must be resident at the time of the oral examination.
3. To ensure that there is no conflict of interests, proposed examiners –
a) must not be related (by family) to the candidate or the supervisor,
b) must not be the candidate’s research collaborator/co-author or involved in the research project, and
c) preferably should not have common supervisor as the candidate’s supervisor(s).
4. Examiners are given two months (from the date of receipt of thesis) to submit the examination report on the
thesis.
