His Excellency Mr. Kim Jong-un,

I would like to personally wish you and the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
a happy new year. While this is a completely new year, I am looking forward as to all countries, including
the United States and South Korea, being able to put politics aside as for the purpose as to helping
ensure that there are peace talks in which will lead to a peaceful settlement being established in the
Korean Peninsula between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, South Korea and the United
States. I currently do not like how some countries in our world are handling the Korean Peninsula issue
and I feel as if some countries at the United Nations believe that it is acceptable for some countries to
engage in provoking joint war games1 along the border of another country while focusing on the
demands of one country while not properly listening to or accrediting all sides and concerns as far as the
conflict in the Korean Peninsula is concerned.2

I believe that in order to help make sure that the peace talks are legitimate and that they are
not biased, I am hoping that the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will reach out
to President Alain Berset of the Swiss Confederation for the purpose as to having that country be the
host country for the peace talks between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, South Korea and
the United States to occur in.3 I believe that this move will help ensure that politics is not allowed to
deteriorate diplomacy between both the Democratic People’s Republic of Kore, South Korea and the
United States. In too many occasions, politics has been allowed to deteriorate the diplomatic relations
between different countries when looking at the diplomatic relations of the international community.

As this new year moves forward, I hope that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will
continue with its plan as to reaching out to officials of South Korea for the purpose as to having peace
talks. While I do not expect the peace talks to show immediate results, forming or establishing a

I am in no way saying that any country is at fault for the conflict in the Korean Peninsula.
2
While I do believe that the United Nations does need to be reformed, one thing that the United Nations Security
Council needs to make sure that they do is to listen to all sides as far as this situation is concerned. The United
Nations as a whole and the United Nations Security Council are not places for countries to act based on their
domestic interests but rather on the interests of Earth as a whole. I believe that this should be done in a way that is
fair and just without political influence or interference. With the same principle as the formation of the United
States, the United Nations is supposed to be united countries representing one world. Regardless as to the
different countries that all of us live we, we are all one world.
3
I am also hoping that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will make its voice hear at the United Nations
Security Council. I believe that all sides as far as this conflict is concerned do have a right to make their voices hear
on different issues, especially at the United Nations Security Council.
peaceful settlement will take time and peace talks occurring will be the road to the peaceful settlement
being able to be established. It is unrealistic to expect that a peaceful settlement will be established
overnight or on the same day that the peace talks occur. While I do believe that the first peace talks
between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and South Korea may at first lead to arguments or
agreeing to disagree on different things, I do believe that this will be the very first step as to the
establishment of a peaceful settlement occurring. I am hoping that all countries take advantage of this
opportunity in a way that is fair and just.

In conclusion, I am extremely confident that representatives with the Democratic People’s

Republic of Korea, South Korea and hopefully the United States will be able to engage in peace talks in
the near further.4 But when the peace talks occur, I hope that they take place in countries like
Switzerland or in other countries that are neutral with respect to conflicts between foreign countries.
While I do dislike and respectfully disagree with the way in which the White House under the direction
of President Donald Trump is handling this situation and his decisions on many domestic and foreign
policy issues, I am extremely happy that the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
does guarantee myself and others the right to express our views, concerns, likes and our dislikes on
different social and political issues. With that being said, I would like to thank you for turning your
attention to this letter and to other letters that I have sent to you. Let us all have a productive new year
and please do not let tweets destroy diplomacy.

Respectfully,

Isaiah X. Smith5

As I have stated to you before, I believe that it would be great for the United States and the Democratic People’s
Republic of Korea to one day have a healthy diplomatic relationship. I believe that if we can reestablish relations
with the Republic of Cuba, I am sure that we can do so with regard as to the Democratic People’s Republic of
Korea.
