KIMBERLEE K. EDGECOMB
Hornell, N.Y. — Kimberlee K.
Edgecomb, 60, of Fairview Ave.,
passed away Sunday (Aug. 29,
2010) at St. James Mercy Hospi-
tal.
Born in Corning, Nov. 21, 1949,
the daughter of Albert and Amy
Cornue Loveland, she had
resided in Hornell for the past
17 years. Kimberlee was a grad-
uate of Avoca Central School
and the Elmira School of Busi-
ness. Upon graduating, Kim
began work at St. James Mercy
Hospital, then worked in the
secretarial field for several years
before starting her own busi-
ness, Kimberlee Kreations &
Singing Telegrams. Following
her retirement, she became a
published freelance writer. Kim-
berlee enjoyed spending time
with her grandchildren, singing,
playing the piano and sharing
her gift of poetry. Most of all
Kim will be remembered by her
family and friends for her well
p.m. on Wednesday and on
Thursday at the Bender-Brown &
Powers Funeral Home, 354 Can-
isteo St., Hornell. A memorial
service was held at 2 p.m. Friday
at the Grace Baptist Church in
Dansville, with Rev. David
Theobald officiating.

W. LEO KARR
Arkport, N.Y. — W. Leo Karr,
79, of 18 Meadowbrook Dr.,
passed away Sunday (Aug. 29,
2010) at Strong Memorial Hos-
pital in Rochester.
Born in North Hornell, Sept. 16,
1930, the son of Wilson B. and
Maude I. Shafer Karr, he had
resided in Almond and Hornell
for several years prior to moving
to Arkport in 1963. He was a
graduate of Avoca High School
and received his associate’s de-
gree from the State University of
New York at Alfred. He had
been a salesman at the former
Elsenheimer Chevrolet, and later
as a Senior Engineer Technician
at the New York State Depart-
ment of Transportation in Hor-
nell.
Leo proudly served his country
as a member of the United
States Navy during the Korean
Conflict. He continued his loy-
alty to his country as an active
member of the American Le-
gion. He served as Commander
of the Arkport, Steuben County
and 7th District Legion. In addi-
tion, he served as Department
Vice Commander of New York
State. He held many other posi-

classic American cars, military
aircraft and U.S. naval ships. He
traveled extensively throughout
the United States and Canada,
as well as trips to China, Italy
and France. A special highlight
was a 2008 visit to Hawaii and
Pearl Harbor with his son, Berry,
followed by a week aboard the
aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, sail-
ing from Hawaii to San Diago.
He took great pride in his family,
home and garden, and was a
notoriously reckless card player;
he enjoyed demolishing family
members at euchre on a regular
basis.
He was predeceased by his par-
ents, and his sister, Janice

Arthur J. “Art” Burdick, 65, of 4
Tenth St., Canisteo, died Tues-
day morning (Aug. 31, 2010) at
his home, following a brief ill-
ness.
Born in Hornell on April 13,
1945, he was the son of Arthur
and Teresa (Sullivan) Burdick.
Art was a lifelong resident of
the Hornell-Canisteo area and
was a graduate of Canisteo
Central School (class of 1963).
He was a graduate of SUNY
Brockport, where he earned his
teaching degree and B.A. de-
gree in science. He was em-
ployed as a sixth grade teacher
at the Hornell Intermediate
School for 33 years, retiring on
July 1, 2000.
Art always had a love for his
community and from 1985-
1991 he served as a trustee for
the Village of Canisteo. He later
served two terms as mayor of
Canisteo (1991-1995 and from
1997-2002).
He was a member of the Hor-
nell Moose Club and a member
of the Hornell Elks Lodge No.
364, where he served as head
steward for eight years. He was
also one of the original mem-
bers of the Hornell Association,
where he served as a member of
the board of directors for two
years. He had also been a com-
municant of St. Joachim’s
Church of Canisteo.

Tournaments. For many years he
played softball for the Hornell
Moose team and bowled in the
Monday Night League for the
Canisteo Zenith Team.
Always ready with a good
joke or funny story, Art will be
remembered for his wonderful
sense of humor, love of all peo-
ple and his compassion for all
human beings. He enjoyed
“hoisting a few” with his many
friends and was a founding
member of the “New Yorker
Club.”
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Arthur and Teresa
Burdick. Art was married on
June 10, 1967 to the former
Amy Hallett, who survives.
Also surviving are two daugh-
ters, Lisa Combs of Canisteo,
and Kari Burdick of Canisteo;
one son, Scott (Andrea) Burdick
of Belle Haven; one brother,
Henry (Judy) Burdick of Mace-
don; one sister, Ellen (Eric) Dar-
row of Clifton Park; seven
grandchildren, Matthew Holley,
Michael (Devon Dray) Holley,
Michelle Holley, Evan Holley,
Hailey Schwartz, Alaina Burdick
and Kylan Burdick; one great-
granddaughter, Samantha Hol-
ley; nieces and nephews.
At Art’s request there will be
no calling hours. A Memorial
Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m.
on Friday, September 3, 2010,
at St. Ann’s Church, with Rev.
Jeremiah Moynihan officiating.
Arrangements are in care of
the Dagon Funeral Home in
Hornell.

Parish and a communicant of St.
Ann’s Church in Hornell. Leo will
be sorely missed by all those
who depended upon his leader-
ship and knowledge.
He was an avid reader, with a
special interest in history and

(Lecceardone) Houghtaling, 60,
of 4858 State Route 36, passed
away peacefully, Tuesday (Aug.
31, 2010) at home.
Born in Hornell, June 10, 1950,
the daughter of Leslie and Gilda
Kline Lecceardone, she was a
lifelong area resident. She grad-
uated from Hornell High School
and BOCES Cosmetology Class
of 1968. Teresa worked for St.
James Mercy Hospital from
1968-75, and owned and oper-
ated The Corner Cut-N-Curl on
Scott Street in Hornell. She was
a member of Our Lady of the
Valley Parish and a communi-
cant of St. Ann’s Church in Hor-
nell, and also a RSVP member.
Teresa will be remembered for
her tireless volunteer work, and
always doing for others, includ-
ing Steuben Rural Ministries and
the Southern Tier Food Bank.
Teresa always had an open ear
for anyone and could easily con-
nect with people. Teresa’s phi-
losophy was to keep it simple
and meaningful.
She was predeceased by her
parents and her brother, John
Leslie in 1959.
She is survived by her husband,
Thomas Houghtaling; daughter,
Christina Marie (Jeffery) Loper
of Hornell; two grandchildren,
Jessica Lynn Loper and Jacob
Thomas Loper; sisters, Laurie
