1 min Goals We will write a poem for two voices.
1 min Introduction Today, we are going to be writing poems for two voices.
Remember last week I told you to start thinking about
things in your life you might want to write a poem about.
4 min Before we start, let's remind ourselves. What is a poem for • Back and forth between two "characters"
two voices? What characteristics does it have? • Describes two different perspectives
• About 1 subject (Sandwich)
• Expressive
• Poet has to think carefully about what parts will be together and what parts will be
separate.
• Compare and contrast
• Sometimes they say the same thing at the same time, but sometimes they say different
things
• Sometimes they talk together, sometimes separately
5 min Since many of the poems involve comparing a contrasting,
there is a Venn diagram graphic organizer on one side of
your paper.

I am going to model filling out this Venn diagram. On this

side I am going to write cat. One the other side, I am going
to write kitten.
What words describe both cats and kittens?
What words describe just cats?
What words decribe just kittens?

You can use the Venn diagram if you want, but you don’t
have to. On the other side is the structure for a poem for
two voices. If you think you are done you can share your
poem with someone at your table or write another poem
for two voices.
17 min What questions do you have before you start writing?
1 min Closure Next week you will be able to recite your poem for two
voices for the class.
