JOB TITLE: Jack, Hydraulic Pallet
JOB LOCATION: DMC/FSDA
TASK/PROCEDURE
Pallet jacks are typically used to move
heavy palletized material over short
distances. Pallet jacks are common in the
warehouse environment. Although they
are common, and to some may appear
harmless, serious, disabling injury can
occur if proper safety precautions are not
followed.
HAZARD
Muscle strain and/or sprain from pushing
and pulling
Skeletal injuries to the neck and spine, as
well as other parts of the body, resulting
from improper lifting procedures and/or
improper body position
Slips, Trips, and Falls
Crushing injuries to the feet and toes

SAFE PROCEDURE
Adequate training is required before for
attempting to use a pallet jack. Training
must include lecture and practical
demonstration
Never attempt to lift a load that exceeds
the limits of the jack
Never attempt to use a pallet jack on a
steep slope
Always maintain a clear view of sight
Pre-plan your route and inspect for
obstacles and debris that could get under
the rollers or cause a trip/slip hazard
Keep hands and feet away from the rollers
and other pinch points
Follow proper lifting procedures when
lifting material. Use your legs, not your
back
Safety-toe footwear is required. Gloves
and other PPE may also be required
Pay attention and take your time
