Assignment III

1. Show that a magnetic dipole of magnetic moment Im l is equivalent to a small electric

loop of radius a and constant electric current, deriving the far field expressions for small
current loop(C< /10).
2. A single turn resonant circular loop with a /8 radius is made of copper wire with a wire
radius of 10-4 /2 and conductivity of 5.72 x 107 S/m. For a freq. of 200 MHz determine
a) radiation efficiency b) maximum gain of the antenna.
3. A circular loop operating at 20 MHz so that its single turn Rr is 0.63 ohms. The loop is to
be connected to a 50 ohm transmission line. Determine a) the radius of the loop. b) to
minimize reflections, determine closest number of integer turns the loop must have c) for
the loop of part b), determine maximum power received if the incident power is 10-5
watts/m2, assume PLF = 1.
4. A small loop antenna (a</20) of constant current is placed a height h above a flat PEC.
The area plane is parallel to x-y plane (PEC). For far field observations a) find the total
electric field radiated by the loop in the presence of PEC b) all the angles from the
vertical to the interface where E = 0, when height is 2h.c) the smallest non-zero height
such that the total far-zone field exhibits a null at an angle of 400 from the vertical.
5. Design a circular loop antenna of constant current such that its field intensity vanishes
only at  =00, 900, 1800. Find it’s a) radius b) radiation resistance and c) directivity.
6. Repeat the problem 2 if number of turns is 7 and Rp / R0 = 0.36.
