Assignment IV

1. Four isotropic sources are placed along the z-axis uniformly with respect to the origin.
Assuming that the amplitudes of elements above the origin are +1 A and the amplitude of
elements below the origin are -1 A find a) the AF b) all the nulls when i) d = /2
ii) d = 
2. A uniform array of 5 elements is designed so that its maximum is directed toward
broadside. If d = /2 determine a) nulls b) maxima c) HPBW d) D0 e) the relative amplitude
in dB of the AF toward end-fire compared to that toward broadside.
3. Repeat problem 2 if maximum is directed toward end-fire and number of elements are 6.
4. A uniform array of 20 isotropic elements is placed along the z-axis, a distance d = /4 apart
with a progressive phase shift of  radians. Calculate  for the following array design a)
broadside b) end-fire with 00 and 1800 c) phased array with maximum aimed at 450 d)
Hansen-Woodyard with 00 and 1800.
5. A five element binomial array of /2 dipoles, placed symmetrically along the x-axis a
distance d apart. The length of the dipole is parallel to the z-axis. a) Find the normalized
excitation coefficients. b) Write the AF for all space. c) Write expression for the E fields
for all space (far field region).
6. A five element, -40 dB side lobe level Dolph-Tschebyscheff array of isotropic elements
placed symmetrically along the z-axis. Find a) the amplitude excitation coeffs. b) AF c)
angles where the nulls occur d) Directivity and e) HPBW for d = 3/4.
