PAD1O HEALTHY LIVING AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES CULMINATING ACTIVITY

For this Culminating Activity, you will prepare a compilation of information based on a

thorough research of a particular outdoor activity or a combination of activities. Attached

you will find a list of 150 activities to assist you in choosing your activity or activities. Keep

in mind that you will be asked to include this list in your final assignment with all activities

that you have attempted during the course of your lifetime selected.

For the purpose of this assessment, you will plan your activity as a 4 to 7 day excursion or

if you would like to plan for a variety of multiple outdoor activities, your proposal could

represent 4 to 7 consecutive days or individual days throughout the year depending on

the season and the choice of activities.

You must include the following six categories in your overall project.

1. Commitment to Action: This is a big one and one that we have worked hard to

achieve. You must explain here how your overall lifestyle, otherwise known as

your approach to life or your attitude, fosters contact with and respect for the

natural world, encourages responsibility for local and global

environmental concerns and inspires living in harmony with one self and

others.

2. Outdoor Expeditions: This is where you choose your outdoor activity or a

variety of activities over a 4 to 7 day period. Here you will demonstrate the

skill, judgement, confidence and sensitivity as it pertains to your activity or

activities. This is essentially, where you plan your itinerary, a day-by-day plan,

where you outline the skills required to complete successfully the activity or

activities.

3. Environmental Investigations: What are the effects of human lifestyles

on the environments in which your activity takes place? What methods are

taken to assess the impacts of human behavior on the environment in which your

activity takes place? What can you do to mitigate (minimize) your footprint as it

pertains to your activity and thus preserve the ecosphere? What can be done to

empower others to respect the outdoor environment?

4. Outdoor Core: Safety first. Here you will demonstrate basic knowledge, skills

and attitudes necessary for safe, comfortable, outdoor experiences in all seasons.

You will provide a list of safety steps and precautions along with an

emergency plan in the event of a potential mishap. You will also list all safety

gear required for your activity or activities.

5. Personal and Group Development: You must provide information on how

you will demonstrate understanding, respect and appreciation of self

and others during your activity. Include theory behind the importance of such a

mindset to support what you share.

6. Environmental Core: You must provide information on how you will

demonstrate awareness, respect and appreciation of living things and

understanding of ecological processes during your activity. Include

theory behind the importance of such a mindset to support what you share.

of possibilities is endless. Conferencing with me is a crucial component of this project.

Your project can take many forms. It will consist of a written portion and could include a
