1 Objectives

The Deliverable #5, is the Construction Documents’ phase deliverable, and its objectives are:
1. Present the information that define the construction of the houses and its assembly
process at the Solar Hai; showing the graphic representation of the work to be done
and including all necessary details and information of its systems, materials, and
equipment.
2. Show that the project is in line with the goals of the SDME.
3. Demonstrate that the project complies with the Competition's Rules and Building
Code.
4. Update and enhance the information presented in the Deliverable #4.

2 SDME Rules Compliance

All materials and documents submitted by the teams must comply with SDME 2018 Rules and
Building Code.
Content, text, and people in the technical and communication materials must comply with the
Rule 3-4 SDME Conduct and Dress Code.

3 Scope

The Deliverable #5 includes the Project Documentation #3, the Design Approval Documents
DA#1, the Simulation Input Report SIR#1, the Electric and PV Chart and Checklists PV#2, and
the Press Kit PK#4.

As in the previous deliverables, the project documentation shall be presented in two


documents: The Project Drawings and the Project Manual. The project documentation must
show the teams main concepts and design strategies and disclose to the organizers all non-
standard design features.

The construction documents define the quantities and qualities of, and relationships among,
all materials required to construct, assemble and disassemble the houses. These documents
include all the building systems, product selection, and information necessary to guaranty the
project constructability. They must be complete and accurate enough to:

- Get a precise idea of the resources and materials needed.


- Generate a detailed cost estimate of the project.
- Facilitate the correct planning of the project construction.
- Construct and deliver the project as was conceived.

SDME Organization will not publish or share the Project Documentations submitted in this
deliverable. These drawings and documents are confidential.

3.1 Project Drawings - PD#3


The PD#3 includes the project construction documents. The SDME construction drawings
shall include all the necessary information that a typical contractor need to construct the
project. They also include the necessary information for the assembly and disassembly of the
houses in the solar village and to establish compliance with the SDME Rules and Code
compliance. Please, refer to Appendix 1 for more information about the required drawings.

3.2 Project Manual - PM#3


Many of the sections of the PM#3 just need to be updated, since they have been also part of
previous deliverables. However, additional sections are required for this phase of the project.
Please find the bellow outline content and structure of the project Manual #3.

3.3 Electric/PV and Batteries Chart and Checklists – PV#2


Teams must submit an updated version of the “Electric/PV and Batteries Chart and
Checklists”. This chart can be download from the SDME Teams Portal.

3.4 Press Kit ‐ PK#4


The Press Kit must be conceived as a communication tool. Its content, style of writing and
design must help achieve the communication purpose of this document. Teams must keep the
requested information updated from one deliverable to the next. The following elements will
be included in the Press Kit:

‐ Team mission statement (Revised, if there are changes)

The content of the Teams’ Press Kit is public information. It might be shared through the
SDME 2018 website and social media, in addition to SDME communication efforts.
Confidential information and images must not be included in the Press Kit.

Names and logos: The team and the project may have the same or different names and logos.
Please, include the team´s name and logo, as well as the project's name and logo, if they are
different. The logo image must be included in the Press Kit document and submitted as
independent vector image file (ai or eps).

Photo(s) of Team Members: An updated group photo of all the team members must be
included with each deliverable. The images included in the Press Kit document shall also be
submitted separately as high‐resolution files.

Team mission statement: A short paragraph explaining the team’s mission statement. This
section can be revised from one deliverable to another.

The Team and its goals: The team shall provide a 100‐word description of the team and its
goals. This section will be used by the organizers for outreach and it will be placed on the Solar
Decathlon Middle East website. The content of this section can be revised form one deliverable
to another.

Current design rendmeters: Four high‐resolution architectural renderings of the house: two
exterior views and two interior views.

Team contact information: The submitted information will appear on the SDME website with
the full name of the team contact person and his (her) email and phone number.

Web pages and social media links: Include the Team Web page URL, and its social media links
(Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Flicker, etc.)

4 Document Formatting Requirements

5 Submission Instructions
5.1 Deliverable Submission Instructions
Each team should follow the defined schedule in sending the deliverables in the stipulated
format at the specific due dates and following the guidelines of the SDME 2018 Organization.
Deliverables are considered on-time if they are received by the SDME 2018 Organization by
10:00 a.m. in Dubai (UTC/GMT +4 hours) on the respective due date. Deliverable #5 files must
be submitted electronically, via the internet.
In addition of the regular PDF files, scanned PDF copies of the signed and stamped structural
and electrical drawings and calculations must be also submitted, in compliance with the Rule
6‐1.
Teams that are not sending the deliverables on time, or not fulfilling with all the content
requirements, will be subject to penalties, refer to Rule 2‐8.
All the deliverables submitted are the property of the SDME 2018 Organization.

5.2 Electronic Submission


SDME will inform the Teams about how to upload the deliverable files. Teams wishing to
reduce file upload times may archive electronic files in ZIP files. Please verify that files in ZIP
files can be extracted using WinZip.

5.3 Electronic File Requirements


All electronic files (drawings, specifications, renderings, photographs, etc.) shall be submitted
as a PDF. Required photographs and images included in the PDF documents must also be
submitted separately as high-resolution files.

PDF files requirements


a). Embed all fonts.
b). Maintain a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
c). The different sections shall be indicated with bookmarks
d). Submitted as vector-based documents, not raster images for every page
Note: Creating a PDF from scans, or by outputting the drawings into a raster image format
(.jpg, .tiff, .png, .gif, etc.) and then creating a PDF from these images, is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Multimedia Requirements
a). Vector artworks must be submitted in their original file format (ai or esp).
b). Photographs shall be submitted in the native format of the camera, such as JPEG or RAW.
c). Color photographs must be in RGB, 8-bit color.
d). Files produced in pixels, as photographs and renderings, shall be submitted in high-
resolution images (minimum 1632 pixels in shortest dimension).
e). For multimedia files to be properly credited, the following information shall be included in
each file’s metadata or a text file accompanying the multimedia files:
- Name, e-mail and affiliation of the photographer or graphic creator
- Multimedia file editor’s name and affiliation.
- For photographs, please indicate the date and location, and identification of any
individuals visible.

File Naming Instructions


The required file-naming convention for all electronic files follows:

5. Graphic scales must be included in all scaled drawings.
6. Inside logistic: detailed process of approximation of transport vehicles, up to their arrival at the lot. These drawings shall include
the type and number of vehicles, order of entry, dimensions and load per axle of each vehicle, turn ratios, characteristics and
dimensions of the load to be transported (with the weight of all the elements), way to proceed with the unloading, etc. The lot,
accesses, loading and unloading area, elements and materials stock area and footprint of the house.
7. Assembly/ disassembly: Plan for the assembly and disassembly. It will include graphics with the assembly and disassembly phases,
work units, persons that will take part, necessary machinery, auxiliary resources, necessary timing, etc.
8. There are three main drawings that are required for the public tour. The first is PT-001 site accessibility where the pathway for
public to access the house should be shown taking to account the public area in the solar hai where the pedestrians are and the
walkable area in the team’s lot (tour route outside the house). The other is PT-101 house tour floor plan. This documents should
include the tour’s route (inside the house) where the ramp information, changes in elevation, spaces between furniture, width of the
door, gates, and corridors and any other aspect related to the accessibility. PT – 201 house tour general information indicates where
the teams’ stopping points will be for explanation.

2.1. Architecture Concept and Design (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the main architectural concept and design intentions; spatial experience and transitions: the
project architectural attributes; how the house's design responds to the Middle East context; how the
natural and artificial lighting complement the house architectural concept and enhance the occupant
comfort; and, how the technologies are integrated.
- Highlight innovative spatial and architectonical solutions.
- Refer to the Contest 1: Architecture.

2.2. Engineering and Construction Design Narrative (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain and justify the construction, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, solar, controls and
automatization systems.
- Include the house energy strategy including estimate production, consumption, energy demand, and
storage if it applies.
- Highlight unique and innovative solutions or strategies.
- Refer to Contest 2: Engineering and construction.

2.3. Energy Efficiency Measures (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the project’s energy efficiency strategies and their effect on the house energy consumption.
- Include information about the house's envelope, passive design strategies, selection of active systems
and appliances, energy management solution and building performance energy simulations.
- Highlight unique and innovative solutions, materials and equipment.
- Refer to Contest 4: Energy Efficiency.

2.4. Communications Strategy and Plan (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the team communication strategy, plan, tasks and results.
- Include information about the team efforts on education and social awareness, their impact in digital
and traditional media, and communication plan for the house exhibition and tour.
- Highlight the creative ideas and the successfulness on reaching and engaging the target audience.
- Refer to Contest 9: Communication.

2.5. Project Innovation (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the team idea of the innovation and why its project must be considered as an innovative one.
- Include information about the innovation in following five areas: Architecture, Engineering, Energy
Efficiency, Communication, and Sustainability.
- Highlight the novel, creative, unique solutions, systems, and materials, in particular, those developed
by the students or with their collaboration.

2.6. Sustainability (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the main sustainability concepts and how they are implemented in the project.
- Include information, and justification, of the selection of the construction system, materials, passive
design strategies, active system, appliances, solar systems and vegetation. Additionally, include the
solutions for the reduction of energy and water consumption, as well as the reduction and management
of the waste.
- Highlight unique and innovative solutions to get a more sustainable project, and the use of recycled
and recyclable materials.
- Refer to Contest 8: Sustainability.

2.7. Innovative Solutions and Elements (4 pages - including figures)


- As it is explained in the SDME 2018 Request for Proposal, there will be special prizes for innovative
solutions. Include and explain, in this section, innovative solutions that have the potential to evolve into
business products.
- Only solutions that have been developed by the team members, or with the collaboration of them, shall
be included in this section.
- Innovative solutions can be - but not limited to - materials, systems, devices, software, etc.-

2.7. Building Integrated Photovoltaics (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain how the Photovoltaics system is integrated into the house architecture.
- Include information and justification about the PV technologies used, the ways in as well the PV
systems are integrated and the additional benefits of the PV integration into the house.
- Highlight the BIPV creative, unique solutions, in particular, those developed by the students or with
the student collaboration.

4.8. Interior Concept and Design (4 pages - including figures)


- Explain the interior design concept and how it reinforces or complements the architectural concept.
- Include ideas about the interior spaces design, finishing, colors, daylight and artificial lighting as well as
intentions and effects on experiences of the occupants.
- Highlight innovative spatial and elements designed by the students or with their collaboration.

Electrical Energy Balance Report

A report about the electrical energy balance of the household for the typical generation and consumption
conditions. It must include at least the following aspects :

1. Introduction

Description of the methodology for the estimate of the electrical production and the environmental benefits.

2. List of the electric loads (household appliances, lights, etc.) used in the household

Includes the main technical characteristics given by the manufacturer, and the estimated consumption for their
use during the Contest Week.

3. Photovoltaic system description

Necessary information about the PV system (types of modules and wiring), inverter(s), batteries, etc.

4. Description of the tools used for the simulations.

These could be commercial software or tools created by participating teams, in which case the algorithms used
must be included.

1. There are no restrictions on the simulation tools that can be used for this analysis, but all such tools should be identified.

Appendix 6: Site Operation Plan

1. Introduction
The objective of the Site Operations Plan (SOP) is to ensure that the competition deadlines will be met, providing
a realistic, logic and safe procedures and schedules for both, assembly and disassembly of the houses. In the
developing of their SOP, the teams must take into account all of the activities, resources, needs to assemble and
disassemble their houses as well as the inspections and competition deadlines.

The SDME organization will develop the General Site Operations Plan of Dubai Solar Hai; based on the
information sent by each of the teams.

2. Content & Structure


The plan includes two main sections: Site Operations Report (to be included in the Project Manual) and Site
Operations Drawings (to be included in the Project Drawings).

3. Site Operations Report


Teams must present the information in a concise and clear way, including only the information that can be useful
for the team meet the competition deadlines in a safety way. Below is the report structure (grey section
recommended but not mandatory for this deliverable):

1. Introduction Brief description of the aim and general information.

3.1 Trucks route Map and brief description of the trucks route.

4.1 Assembly and disassembly working teams Define the assembly and disassembly working teams, include the
coordinator (one per team working team), the team composition, and
the tasks of each team.
4.2 Assembly and Disassembly phases
4.3 Phases description Identify and define the phases of the assemble and disassembly
processes.
For each phase, it must include the working teams and the necessary
machinery.
4.4 Waste management Description of the team waste management strategy.
