Economy Questions

1)As a person's income increases, their taxes increase as well. Should we change the United
States taxation system? Should we raise taxes for the rich?

2) In it’s 34 member states, the richest 10% of the population earn 9.6 times the income of the
poorest 10%. How do you plan on decreasing the gap between the rich and the poor?

3) How do you plan on bringing down the cost of real estate?

4) How would you regulate how people pay taxes that not only the poor would approve but also
the rich?

5) High interest rates are a cause of recession as well as inflation. How should we prepare for
the next global economic recession?

Education Questions

1)Studies have shown that charter schools in big cities have made a dramatic difference, often
providing up to 40 more days of academic learning which leads to better performing students
than their peers in public schools. Do you think that public schools which are low performing
should be closed in favor of charter schools?

2) Teacher shortages in some parts of the country are prompting states to figure out ways to
increase salary. As of 2017 the average median salary of a teacher was $58,779, while nurses
received $64,000 and computer programmers over $80,000. How would you attract more
applicants?

3) Some studies have suggested that students are only active in gym class for fewer than 16
minutes per class. With resources being limited, are gym classes worth the investment? If so,
how can we improve the quality of classes to show better results?

4) There are about 120 superintendents on Long Island, most earning over $200,000 with some
earning over $400,000. With these high salaries among other costs, is it time for Long Island
districts to merge and save money? What are the benefits and risks of doing this?

5) Standardized testing costs states $1.7 billion a year. Should we continue paying for
standardized tests?

Foreign Policy Questions


1)North Korea has become a nuclear power and is led by a dictator who does not seem to be
afraid of starting a war, even if it means the destruction of his own country. How does the
United States and the world deal with a rogue nation like this to prevent war?

2) The U.S is Canada’s largest trading partner, but the U.S goods trade deficit is over $12 billion
a year. At the same time we enjoy a $25 billion trade surplus in services provided to Canada.
Since a key aspect of Donald Trump‘s presidency is to increase manufacturing in the U.S and
decrease trade deficits, is it wise to put tariffs on Canadian products coming into the US?

3) Recently the United States announced the moving of the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. In
response the UN held a vote 128-9 condemning this move. Should the U.S use the over $40
billion we give in foreign aid each year to punish these countries which vote against us at the
UN? If not, how should we handle it?

4) The United States has military forces all around the world. While Japan estimates it helps pay
almost 80% of the cost, most countries pay far less for American protection. Should the US
force countries to pay 100% of the cost of American forces stationed in their countries? If they
refuse, should we move them out?

5) Donald Trump is the first American president to use Twitter as a daily tool, sending out 5 or
more per day on average. Since many of these tweets are aimed at foreign leaders and other
countries, the world has an unfavorable opinion of our president. Should congress act to limit or
end these tweets when it comes to foreign-policy?
