Connection to research paper This will connect to the research paper since the subject of both
the paper and project will be the same. The project will deal with
explaining financial concepts that deal with income and how to
manage it, such as investing, budgeting, saving, retirement and
insurance.

Goal of product / what problem or The goal of this project is the educate the students of eighth
need solved or addressed period study hall with Mr. Bitters and Mrs. Field in Room 108
important financial concepts. These concepts will include:
retirement, insurance, investing, budgeting, and utilities.
Students often either don’t know much about these topics, with
them often don’t know how to apply them to their own lives or
why they should care about them in the first place.

My project will explain these topics in a manner that these


students can understand and enjoy, as well as teach them
information and general financial strategies that they that can be
applied as teenagers and young adults.

Estimated time to complete This project should take about 3 to 3.5 months to complete. The
most time consuming parts of the project will be the research
which should take about about 1-1.5 months. The research will
be time consuming since I will be researching topics that I do
not have a lot of prior knowledge in, and will have to understand
the information well enough that I can confidently and
accurately explain it in the videos. The writing will be time
consuming due to the fact that each video will be 5 minutes
long, requiring many lines of dialogue. The writing process
should take 2-3 weeks. Filming the videos the video should take
about 2-3 weeks as well. The editing process will take a lot of
time due to having to go through every frame to make sure there
are no errors, with there will be multiple viewings of each video
with heavy scrutiny. The editing process should take 3-4 weeks.

People who will assist (if applicable) Kathy Lusch, the owner of a medical practice, has extensive
experience and knowledge in how health and life insurance
works and how to simplify the details to ordinary people.
Jeffrey N. Rapaglia, a CPA who works for Dixon Hughes
Goodman LLP in Professional Standards. His job is to break
down complex regulations and laws that are updated constantly
to his colleagues in the firm using guides and presentations. This
means he is experienced in taking complex topics and breaking
them down in an understandable way, much like what I will be
doing.
Gary Greer, a CPA that works for DHG and has experience in
multiple fields like auditing, consulting and tax evaluations. He
is also my mentor and knows that I can ask him for help on my
project, such as doing a final reading on my scripts.

What will judges see at The judges will see clips of the final videos, as well as
presentation? (evidence of work screenshots and screen captured videos of the research, writing,
and development) filming, and editing processes. I will also be able to provide all
of the research done along with their respective sources in a
separate document or folder. I will also be able to show the
before and after date from the study hall assessments.

Personal stretch (area of growth) This project will be a stretch for me due to the large quantity of
the video that is required. The time, skill, and effort of the video
making will go far beyond what is expected in a multimedia
class. Organization and scheduling will also be a large factor in
this project, more so than for any normal class project or
assignment. This will also be a stretch because I am going to
discuss information that goes beyond one’s average economics
course. I will also have to use the information and principles
learned and apply them so that teenagers are able to apply them
in real world situations.

Product Description: ​This project will contain five 5 minute​ ​videos about financial topics associated
with income and living expenses, such as, retirement, investing, budgeting, utilities, and insurance. The
videos will aim to educate the students in important financial topics that relate to them and can be useful
to teenagers and young adults (college students). I will present these videos to the students of my 8th
period study hall administered by Mr. Bitters and Mrs. Field by emailing them the links to the videos and
making a verbal announcement during class instructing them to watch them.

The videos will explain these ideas in a way that is easy to understand on a freshman/sophomore level.
The videos will contain a combination of live action presentations by me, live action sketches, news clips
and primary sources, and animations (powtoons, moovly). Footage will be shot with iphones and
Quicktime screen capture, audio through a snowball microphone, and editing done through imovie and
garageband.

Work Stages
1. Create a survey for 8th period that tests students knowledge in financial information, (ei. Which
of the following is NOT a credit union? a) Transunion b) Equifax c) Equnion d) Experian) and
personal questions that ask them what they do for their personal finances (ei. Do you keep a
monthly budget a) yes b) sometimes c) no). The survey will be emailed to the students of 8th
period. I will then collect the results and use them to help shape my videos.
2. I will research the topics and take notes on them with their respective sources that will be
implemented into the videos. I will specifically seek out information and sources that pertain to
teenagers and young adults. All notes and research will be listed on a document that can be
viewed by the judges.
3. I will write the scripts for the videos, which will include the dialogue, sequence of events, etc.
4. I will shoot the footage, including the live action scenes and animation scenes.
5. I will finish the editing process, and then publish the final product on Youtube. I will then let the
8th period study hall view the videos over the course of one week (ei. Video 1 one Monday, video
2 on Tuesday, ect.)
6. I will then email 8th period study hall the same survey/assessment that was given to them at the
beginning of the project. I will record the results and determine the improvement from the initial
assessment.
