GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
1.0 SCOPE
This Specification covers the minimum requirements for Power, Control and
Instrumentation Cables.
2.1 Vendor shall meet or exceed the requirements of the latest edition of the following
codes, regulations and standards, except as superseded herein. In cases where
more than one code, regulation or standard apply to the same condition, the most
stringent shall be followed. In the event of a conflict between this specification and
other specifications or correspondence, the OWNER shall be consulted and a
ruling, in writing, shall be obtained before any work is started.
• IEC 502 Extruded solid dielectric insulated power cables for rated
voltage from 1kV up to 30kV
2.3 Any deviation from this specification must be approved, in writing, by OWNER.
Such written approval must be obtained prior to the commencement of any work
which would constitute such a deviation.
3.0 GENERAL
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
All cables shall be IEC approved and bear an IEC approved label for the particular
application.
4.0 DESIGN
4.1.1 Cables for use at medium voltage (1000 to 6600 V) shall be built to IEC 502, with
the following features:
4.1.2 Cables for use below 1000 Volts shall have the following features:
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

•
2
1.5mm minimum size
• PVC, PE or XLPE insulation
• Each conductor numbered
• 20% spare conductors
• Single conductor, un-armoured for use in conduits
• Fire rated to IEC 331 (non-conduit use only)
• Multiple conductors galvanised steel wire armour and a orange PVC jacket
• Unarmoured for use inside of buildings
Cables for use in instrumentation circuits shall have the following features:
• Copper conductors
• 300 V insulation level
• PVC, PE or XLPE insulation
• Each conductor identified
•
2
1mm minimum size
• 20% spare conductors
• Twisted and metallized tape shielded conductor assemblies for each circuit
• Single assembly, un-armoured for use in conduits
• Multiple assembly with galvanised steel wire armour and a black PVC jacket for
non intrinsically safe and blue for intrinsically safe, for use outside conduit
• Fire rated jackets to IEC 332
• Other features as required by the application
Cables shall be suitable for use in the designated hazardous area classification.
Any deviation from this Specification requires prior written acceptance from
OWNER.
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
Current rating for power conductors shall be based on 90°C conductor temperature
and 40°C ambient, based on IEC 287 ratings.
5.0 TESTING
Cables shall be tested in accordance with the referenced Standards, and the
Vendor’s normal production tests.
