To obtain a knowledge on DSP algorithms and to present these
algorithms in DSP processor for various applications
OBJECTIVES:
On completion of the course the students will be able to
• Classify signals and systems & their mathematical representation.
• Analyses the discrete time systems.
• Apply various transformation techniques & their computation.
• Design filters and their implementation.
• Apply to engineering application programmable digital signal processor
Outcomes:
• Be able to take the Z‐transform of a LTI system
• Determine the frequency response of FIR and IIR filters.
• Determine the spectrum of a signal using the DFT, FFT, and spectrogram.
• Be able to design, analyze, and implement digital filters in Matlab.
• Be able to implement filters on a digital signal processor.
INTRODUCTION
Classification of systems: Continuous, discrete, linear, causal, stable, dynamic,
recursive, time variance; classification of signals: continuous and discrete, signal
energy and power calculation ; sampling techniques, quantization, quantization
error, Nyquist rate, aliasing effect, convolution in time domain.
DISCRETE TIME SYSTEM ANALYSIS
Z‐transform and its properties, inverse z‐transforms; difference equation – Solution
by z‐transform, ‐ Stability analysis, frequency response – Convolution in frequency
domain.
DISCRETE FOURIER TRANSFORM & COMPUTATION
DFT properties, magnitude and phase representation ‐ Computation of DFT using
FFT algorithm – DIT & DIF ‐ FFT using radix 2 – Butterfly structure.
DESIGN OF DIGITAL FILTERS
FIR & IIR filter realization – direct, parallel & cascade forms. FIR design: Windowing
Techniques – Need and choice of windows – Linear phase characteristics.
IIR design: Analog filter design ‐ Butterworth and Chebyshev approximations;
digital design using impulse invariant and bilinear transformation ‐ Warping,
prewarping ‐ Frequency transformation.
