students to keep and look back on their learning from that lesson. When submitting, the students
will also submit answers to a big question from each individual lesson. The teacher will use a
checklist to ensure everything was submitted accurately.
Materials to be submitted from lesson:
1. Graphic organizer
a. An answer to the question: Make a note on the different video clips from
each station.
2. Journal entry from suitcase activity
a. An answer to the question: In your opinion, what is the most challenging
component of immigration and why do you think so? Provide examples
from the lesson to expand your reasoning.
3. Worksheet on their country of immigration, worksheet to put in notebooks about
other countries
a. An answer to the question: Why did people immigrate to America?
4. Diary entry
a. An answer to the question: What are some of the hardships immigrants
faced during the voyages to America?
5. Timeline describing the series of events at Ellis Island
a. An answer to the question: What types of things did Ellis Island try and do
for immigrants coming to America?
6. Exit slip
a. An answer to the question What is the Chinese Exclusion Act and how did
it affect Chinese immigrants?
7. Map of the home origin and travel path to America
a. An answer to the question: What are two advantages of America for
immigrants?
8. Dinner Party Worksheet
a. An answer to the question: How did people adapt to the challenges and
change in America?
9. Venn Diagram
a. An answer to the question: List one similarity and one difference of the
process of becoming at a citizen at Ellis Island and the process now.
