A Peek at next Week…
Math: During math this week we will be wrapping up Topic 8: Finding
Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions rotations in math
and reviewing for our CMS Quarter 2 assessment. This assessment focuses
on all objectives taught so far in math. It will help the students build
stamina in solving problems across the math standards for the EOG. We will
complete this over two days: calculator inactive and calculator active.

Reading & Social Studies: This week we will immerse ourselves in complex
nonfiction. Students will continue using their strategies for comprehension
and to help with attentiveness and stamina. We will practice these
strategies during our social studies research clubs.
Week 15: Colonial Conflicts
Students will learn more about the difficulties of colonial life due to wars
with American Indians and piracy. They will study conflicts between the
colonists and American Indians. They will also learn how Colonel John
Barnwell achieved a period of peace. Students will learn about the
motivations of pirates and the difficulty in punishing pirates for their crimes

Writing: We will be researching and taking notes. Students are working on

taking organized notes that are focused on their subtopics. Continue to
support them with getting books for research. Reading, notetaking and the
writing involved in this unit will take place at school, so students can take
ownership of their work and confer with their teacher about their progress.

Science: In Science, we will look more closely at why there are moon
phases. The students will understand why the appearance of the moon
changes during the month based on the moon’s orbit around the Earth.
