(b) (10 Points) The speed of 20 hp, 300V, 900 rpm separately excited dc motor is controlled by
a three phase full wave controlled converter. The field circuit is controlled by single phase diode
bridge rectifier then buck converter with inductance L = 10 mH , C = 100uF and 20 kHz
switching frequency. The ac input to the armature and field converters is three-phase supply,
208V, 50 Hz. The armature resistance is Ra = 0.15 Ω , and the motor voltage constant is
K v = 1.15V / A rad / sec . , where T ( N .m) = K v * I f I a and Ea = K v * I f ω . the field circuit resistance
R f = 70 Ω . The armature current is continuous and ripple free.
I. If the field converter is operated at the developed torque is Td = 106 N .m at 750 rpm
and the duty ratio of the buck converter is D=0.9, determine the delay angles of armature
armature side converter.
II. If the field circuit converter is set to the maximum field current (D=1), the developed
torque is 108N.m, and the delay angle of the armature converter is zero, determine the
motor speed and the duty ratio of the buck converter.
III. For the same load and field current of part (II), determine the firing angle of the field
circuit converter if the speed has to be increased to 1800 rpm.

(i) The slip of induction motor.
(ii) The modulation index m a of the PWM inverter.
(iii) The duty ratio of the boost converter.

2- If it is required to drive the motor at 70Hz control signal frequency of the PWM, determine:
(i) The speed of rotation.
(ii) The modulation index m a of the PWM inverter.
