The three business cases focus on issues related to sustainability.

It deals with
company’s behavior in times of technological change and Digital Revolution.

It also reflects many of the complexities that companies face in a global context:
different markets with different demands, changes in the loci of innovation, and
the raw complexity of a large multinational firm.

Assignment Questions:

NOKIA CASE STUDY:

1- Analyse and evaluate the main strategic actions taken by each Nokia CEO.
What actions created enduring sources of competitive advantage
2- Identify the roots of the problems that lead to Nokia’s decline.
3- How did Nokia manage its ecosystem (consisting of operators in the early
years and app and software developers more recently)?
4- Could the firm have better prepared itself for the smartphone era? What
are the alternatives to those decisions? Provide recommendations to
address these problems.

BlackBerry case study:

1- Describe the industry that original blackberry competed in.


2- Why was the original blackberry product so successful?
3- When competitors introduced new products, why did BlackBerry react
this way?
4- Why was BlackBerry unable to sustain its industry position?
HTC CASE SUDY:

1- Analyse HTC competitive advantage. What are the HTC’s competitive


strengths and competitive weaknesses?
2- Is HTC’s competitive position sustainable? What are the main challenges
faced by HTC? How do they affect HTC’s competitive position?
3- HTC transformation moved from a small player to a top-five producer of
smartphones. What strategic actions would you recommend to move HTC
into the top three.
