Fox and A Cat

One day a cat and a fox were having a conversation. The fox, who was a conceited creature,
boasted how clever she was. 'Why, I know at least a hundred tricks to get away from our mutual
enemies, the dogs,' she said.

'I know only one trick to get away from dogs,' said the cat. 'You should teach me some of yours!'

'Well, maybe some day, when I have the time, I may teach you a few of the simpler ones,' replied
the fox airily.

Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The barking grew louder and
louder - the dogs were coming in their direction! At once the cat ran to the nearest tree and climbed
into its branches, well out of reach of any dog. 'This is the trick I told you about, the only one I
know,' said the cat. 'Which one of your hundred tricks are you going to use?'

The fox sat silently under the tree, wondering which trick she should use. Before she could make
up her mind, the dogs arrived. They fell upon the fox and tore her to pieces.

HOW TO MAKE FRIED RICE

INGREDIENTS

 3 cups cooked rice *

 2 Tbs sesame oil
 1 small white onion, chopped
 1 cup frozen peas and carrots, thawed
 2-3 Tablespoons soy sauce (more or less to taste)
 2 eggs, lightly beaten
 2 Tbsp chopped green onions (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat a large skillet or wok to medium heat. Pour sesame oil in the bottom. Add white onion
and peas and carrots and fry until tender.
2. Slide the onion, peas and carrots to the side, and pour the beaten eggs onto the other side.
Using a spatula, scramble the eggs. Once cooked, mix the eggs with the vegetable mix.
3. Add the rice to the veggie and egg mixture. Pour the soy sauce on top. Stir and fry the rice and
veggie mixture until heated through and combined. Add chopped green onions if desired.

NOTES

* For the rice they suggest day old rice. I usually cook mine in the morning or night before and
refrigerate. It will still taste great if you are not able to do this.

Fishing at The River

When I was in Junior High School, my father once took me to go fishing with him at the river on
Sunday morning. The river lies across our oil palm plantation. We had breakfast first at home and
then left early in the morning by motorcycle.

When we arrived in our plantation, my father parked the motorcycle under the hut. He asked me
to collect some dry wood and dry grass or leaves. When I already collected enough wood and dry
leaves, my father set a fire in the center of the fireplace. He said that the smoke from the fire
would scare some dangerous animal like bear and boar to come closer to the hut and so it would
make us safer.

After cleaning some wild grass around the hut, my father gave me a hoe and asked me to dig
some soil to find worms. When I already had enough worm, I brought it to my father and we went
straight to the river. We put the worm on the fishing hook as a bait to catch the fish. As a beginner
fisher, I cannot apply the worm on the fishing hook well, and it look like it was about to fall of the
hook, but my father said that it was okay. I threw the fishing hook into the river and wait for the
fish to eat the bait, but nothing happened after a while. When I was about to get bored I saw a big
prawn was slowly walking in the water. I placed the fishing hook slowly into the face of the prawn
and move it up and down so the worm seemed alive. I never expected it to happen but suddenly
the prawn move its hand and grabbed the worm on my fishing hook. I lift it very slowly and the
prawn was still there hanging tight on the worm until I placed it on the ground and I caught it right
away with my hands. My father was so surprise to see it. Before we went home, we cooked it at
the hut and enjoyed it together.

Borobudur Temple

Borobudur temple is one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in Indonesia. It is situated in central
Java. Borobudur temple is one of the seven wonders of the world which needs to be preserved
its circumstances. The people all over the world know that Borobudur is one of the greatest art
works that ever known since long time ago.
Borobudur temple was built by Syailendra Dynasty during the eighth century. It needed
more than two million river stones. It is the biggest temple in the world.
After going into some restorations, Borobudur is visited by more and more tourists, both
domestic and foreign tourists. Most of them admire Borobudur temple because of its beauty, its
elegance and the story of the relief on its walls.
Domestic tourists usually go there by bus or private cars, while foreign tourists like to join
travel bureau because they don’t need to think of the transportation, accommodation, and
itinerary. There are some money changers around the location. It makes them easier to change
their money. But some of them like to bring credit cards and checks.

Lion lives in prairie, bushes, and open forests of Saharan, Africa. Lion is the second biggest feline on the
planet. Its size is marginally littler than tiger. Be that as it may, they are nearly related and have

amiable creatures. They live in gatherings. There are around 30 lions in a gathering comprising of three

2 KILLED, 5 INJURED AFTER VEHICLE HITS TREE IN BIHAR

Two persons were killed and five others injured when a driver dozed off and hit a tree in Khagaria
district of Bihar this morning, reports PTI.

The seven persons were returning to their native villages in Khagaria district after attending a
marriage ceremony at Bakhri in neighbouring Begusarai district, Gangaur Police Station SHO
Gajendra Kumar said.

The incident took place on Khagaria-Bakhri road near Pahraja after the driver dozed off, lost
control of the four-wheeler and hit the tree, the SHO said. The deceased have been identified as
Dipak Kumar (21), the driver of the vehicle and Sanjiv Kumar (28), the SHO said.

The injured have been admitted to nursing homes at Begusarai and Bakhri.

The Unhealthy Fast Food

Fast food, nowadays, is considered as a normal eating venture. People are not just eating out on special
occasions or weekends anymore. It means that all the time they mostly eat fast foods. However is fast food good
for health?

Fast food has its popularity in the 1940’s. Within a few years, fast-food operations popped up everywhere. With
the compelling rise in fast-food restaurants since the 1940’s, oddly it started the rise in obesity and cancer during
that same time period.

Fast food is highly processed with a wide array of additives. To ensure fast food’s low cost, the fast food products
are made with highly-processed ingredients to give it shelf-life, to hold consistency, and to enhance flavor. Fast
food is altered from its original healthy form.

It is not the calories in fast food which damage health and waistline. It is the chemical additives such as aspartame
and MSG (monosodium glutamate). Studies show that the chemical additives lead to weight and disease issues.
8.HORTATORY EXPOSITION

Corruption
Do you know what the meaning of corruption is? What is the relation between money and
corruption? Well, corruption is common everywhere in the world, even in the United States.
It’s just a matter of intensity. However, it is quite shocking when one reliable survey claims
Jakarta as the most corrupt place in Indonesia.

The survey has made me sad, actually, because I stay and earn a living here in the capital.
As most people know, Tanjung Priok port smuggling is not a new thing at all. Entrepreneurs
who want to minimize their tax payments tend to do such a thing more often. They even
bribe the officials.

Well, I think the measures taken so far to overcome the problem by punishing the corruptors
is still not far enough. We have to prevent the younger generations from getting a bad
mentality caused by corruption.

I believe we should start at the earliest stages in school and I think everyone should be
involved in the effort to eradicate corruption. We must not make any distinction.
9.EXPLANATION

TSUNAMI

In Indonesia, we are very familiar with the word " Tsunami ". This natural disaster has ever killed thousands of
lives in Banda Aceh a few years ago. Indonesia mourned, the world mourned. Then, how the Tsunami
happens? Here is a brief explanation of the process of how the Asian tsunami happens.

Tsunamis can occur if there is a phenomenon which causes the displacement of large amounts
of water in the ocean, such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, landslides, and meteors that fall
to Earth. However, 90% of tsunamis is the result of underwater earthquakes.

Vertical movement in the Earth's crust in the bottom of the ocean causes a sudden up or down
movement of sea floor which then causes the water balance disorders above it. This disturbance
causes the occurrence of the flow of the massive sea water energy, that once it reaches the shore,
it becomes huge waves resulting Tsunami.

10. DISCUSSION
 Should the death penalty be allowed?
Some people were executed in Indonesia through July 2016. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of
drug peddlers although capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes. Many
for and against reactions came after the execution. Then, should the death penalty be allowed in Indonesia?

Proponents of the death penalty say that it is an important tool for law enforcement, deters crime, and costs less
than life imprisonment. They also argue that retribution or "an eye for an eye" honors the victim, helps console
grieving families, and ensures that the perpetrators of heinous crimes never have an opportunity to cause future
tragedy.

Opponents of capital punishment say that it has no deterrent effect on crime, gives governments’ overlapped
power to take human life, and potentially makes social injustices by disproportionately targeting people of color
(racist) and people who cannot afford good attorneys (classist). They say lifetime jail sentences are a more
appropriate than death.

In conclusion, death penalty will always exist in our society as well as its pros and cons. For the proponents of
this action, they think that it will be very effective to deter crime. While for those who are against this policy, they
argue that this punishment will potentially make social injustice.

11.REVIEW TEXT
Merry Riana is a successful young woman entrepreneur, writer, and motivator. Her life’s story is
told in a movie, Merry Riana “Million Dollar Dream”, which is adapted from her book with the same
title. This film visualizes her struggle to survive from difficulty of life and become successful.

The violence that happened in Jakarta and other big cities in Indonesia in May 1998 makes Merry
Riana forced to flee to Singapore. Merry Riana’s father decided to send his daughter to Singapore
because he was afraid of the unsafe condition. She went alone to Singapore with the support
money that was only enough to buy food for five days. Fortunately, Merry Riana met with her best
friend, Irene, who wanted to go to university in the there, too. With Irene’s help, Merry could live
in a boarding house. She was also accepted in one of the best college there. But, it could only be
reached if Merry paid $40,000. The only hope was to take a loan college student that could only
be obtained if Merry had a guarantor. Then, Merry met her senior, Alva, who was very reckoning.
He gave many requirements before he finally agreed to help Merry. He also had Merry look for
side job. Merry realized that she should be successful as soon as possible. She did various work,
from spreading online business brochure, until playing withe high risky shares. The condition of
her economy was moving up and down. Problem of love also occurred when Alva expressed his
feeling to Merry. Meanwhile, Merry knew it well that Irene fell in love with Alva.

The acting of Chelsea Islan (Merry Riana) in this movie is very good. She can impersonate Merry
Riana’s character very well. But, it would be better if there was no kissing scene.

I think this is an inspirational movie which can motivate people to be successful at young age. It
brings good spirit for young men in Indonesia. The script writer is successful to bring a set of
interesting conflicts which make the plot of this movie become alive

12.SPOOF
Once a man was walking in a park when he across a penguin. He took it to a policeman and
said; “What should I do?” The policeman replied; “Take it to the zoo!”.
The next day, the policeman saw the man in the same park. The man was still carrying the penguin. The policeman was
rather surprised and walked up to the man and asked; “Why are you still carrying the penguin? Didn’t you take it to the
zoo?” The man replied; “I certainly did. And it was a great idea because the penguin really enjoyed it. So, today I am
taking it to the movie”.
