Item Specifications:
• Test pack designed for daily monitoring of the
performance of pre-vacuum steam sterilizers
operating at 134°C / 3.5 ± 5s minutes and 121°C /

• In addition to detecting air leaks, inadequate steam
penetration and vacuum pump failures, the test

Instructions For Use:
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use,
storage, expiration date and interpretation of results.
• Frequency of use: Bowie-Dick test pack should be
done daily for each pre-vacuum steam sterilizer.
• Timing: if the steam is turned off at night, the test
should be performed the first cycle of the day. If the
sterilizers stay on 24-hours a day, the test should be
performed the same time every day.

Instructions For Use:
• Placement: The recommended location is on the
bottom shelf over the drain line (coldest spot).
• The test should be run for 3 ½ to 4 minutes with no
dry time [Bowie-Dick (B&D) cycle].
• The Bowie-Dick test is done in an EMPTY load
(nothing else in the sterilizer) and no other tests
could be performed along with it.

Instructions For Use:
• At the end of the cycle, the door should be opened
and the cart with the pack removed (The cart should
not remain inside the sterilizer to cool down).
• After cooling, the pack should be opened and the
results reviewed:
1) A complete and even color change of the indicator
sheet = (PASS).
2) Any incomplete or inconclusive results = (FAIL).

area of the sterilizer chamber and load that is least
favorable for sterilization (usually in the front,
bottom section near the drain line). The sterilizer
manufacturer should identify the exact location of
this area.
