Introduction and Industry Overview - This session will start with an overview of the
day's presentations and also provide an update regarding resources both new and updated,
future conferences and other industry activities and trends.
These ARE the Steel Bridge Design References You Are Looking For - A bridge
designer is faced with many decisions and questions as they proceed through a steel-girder
bridge superstructure design - especially if the designer is embarking on such a design for
the first time. Fortunately, there are several published references that can be used to aid
in the development of efficient and economical steel-girder bridge superstructure designs.
However, while there are several excellent references available, some of them can be quite
voluminous and intimidating to a junior-level designer. This session is intended to help
attendees identify industry documents and design references that can be appropriately
implemented during the design of a steel bridge superstructure.
AASHTO Updates: What's New in the 8th Edition Steel Specification - The next
edition of the AASHTO Bridge Specification contains many updates and changes. In Part 1
of this series, this is your chance to get ahead of the curve and learn what's new in the
steel section of the upcoming 8th Edition AASHTO LRFD Bridge Specification.
AASHTO Updates: New Bolted Splice Procedure - Part 2 of this series will conclude the
discussion of what is new in the Steel Design section of the new 8th Edition AASHTO LRFD
Design Specification . Included as part of this session will be a detailed presentation of the
new procedures for designing bolted splices with example.

Virtual Tour of a Modern Steel Mill - This session will look at the process of making and
delivering steel for bridge applications.

Fit-Up Considerations for Steel I-Girder Bridges - This session summarizes recently
completed research supporting the development of improved design, detailing and erection
guidelines to ensure reliable fit-up of skewed and/or curved steel I-girder bridges.
Attendees will learn how to describe the "fit condition" of a steel I-girder bridge, how
framing arrangements affect cross-frame forces and how the choice of fit condition affects
cross-frame forces.
Steel Bridge Research Today - Steel has been the backbone of the nation's
infrastructure 100+ years. Although steel is a mature material, in the spirit of continual
improvement and a better understanding of steel's behavior, there is still much to be
learned. This session will look at current on-going research in the area of steel bridges and
its affect on fabrication, design and asset management.

Industry Round Table Discussion - This is an opportunity to ask steel bridge fabrication
experts about topics like best practices for improving constructability and economy. Maybe
you have a design problem that you are working through that may benefit from some
feedback. Or maybe you would like to hear about advancements are making their way into
the modern fabrication shop.

Throughout the morning, questions will be collected from attendees that will be discussed
during this session in the afternoon. So, please be prepared to write down any questions
that you have that you think our panel may be able to answer.

Note that our speakers will also be available to answer additional questions for them that
may not have come to mind throughout the day.
