Description

The course focuses on the hands-on use of law in international business and transnational commercial
transactions. You will be equipped with the legal insight and knowledge to make sound business decisions.
Learn the do's and don'ts from the perspective of a legal advisor to major trade houses, banks, insurers and
transporters. Acquire a strong(er) legal position in negotiations. Be able to use the opportunities the law
affords and avoid the pitfalls.

Learning Objectives / Competencies

• Distinguish between the major legal systems in the world (common law, civil law, Islamic law)
• explain the difference between various legal entities in the international business arena (partnership,
Ltd., GmbH, PLC, SA de CV);
• Differentiate between MERCOSUR, NAFTA and EU;
• Judge EU competition and US anti trust issues (cartel, monopoly/abuse of a dominant position) and
take business decisions accordingly
• Identify the applicable law of a particular contract and which court to in- volve
• Use the United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG)for the practical
evaluation of international sales contracts;
• Justify which INCOTERMS and /or financial instruments to use in practical situations;
