Meet the Coaches

Derek Herman
Coach Herman is entering his 2nd season for the Lady Bruins. Last season the Bruins finished 3rd in the
MCCAA Western Conference with a 19-9 league record and an overall record of 34-13. The Bruins were
one win away from advancing to the National Tournament in Clinton, MS but fell short losing to Lansing
Community College 12-9 in the District I championship game.
Coach Herman is a 1991 Union City graduate and former U.S. Marine. He has coached girls travel
softball for several years and boys summer baseball including last year’s 2016 Union City Sandy Koufax
league and league tournament champions. They finished the summer 15-3 in conference play and 24-10
overall. Herman also spent two coaching seasons at Union City High School, one as the Varsity Softball
Assistant Coach and one as the JV Softball Assistant Coach. Coach Herman lives in Union City with his
wife Kelly and daughter Skyler and twin boys Tate and Trey.

Head Coach

Mile Miller
Coach Miller is in his 3rd year as a Bruin softball assistant. Mike was part of last season’s historic run with
the Bruins reaching the District I championship game for the first time in school history. Coach Miller
was also an assistant coach during the 2008 season where the team was 18-14 in conference play and
26-23 overall. At that time the 26 wins were the most in school history.
Coach Miller brings a wealth of softball knowledge to the team. His enthusiasm for the game is
contagious and he will help Coach Herman with all facets of the game this season.

Assistant Coach

Kelsey Konkol
Coach Konkol is in her first year as an assistant coach after she finished up her career as a Lady Bruin as
a player. Kelsey is from Homer, MI where she was all-conference and all-district her senior year, ending
her career as the all-time home run leader in school history. As a Bruin last season, Kelsey batted .410
on the season with 7 home runs and 28 RBI’s. Kelsey was voted All-Conference Honorable Mention for
her play while also earning All-Conference and All-MCCAA academic honors. Kelsey also was voted to
the District I all-tournament team last season when the Bruins ended one game short of a berth to the
National Championship Tournament when she batted .615 for the tournament with 16 hits, 6 home runs
and 16 RBI’s.
