I started playing Chopin's first ballade two weeks ago. I had hardly any problems
sight-reading the piece satisfactorily up until the coda. I need some advice on
tackling the coda.

hi Smiley i need any pointers or advice about this piece, and when you studied it
did it take a long time. because right now i can play the first 5 pages well but
not quite up to speed in the fast spots but its getting there, and i was wondering
whether this is normal or am i just bad.? Cry all comments welcome ! Grin

I really love this piece, and I was wondering if anyone knows how much experience
is needed to pull it off. It seems to me that the hardest part would be memorizing
it. Has anyone played it? How long did it take before you were able to play it
through relatively well?

I have been listening to the 4 chopin ballades on 'repeat' recently, and I find
that I always get really angry at the end of the first ballade. I think the entire
piece until the end is so well put together, then at the end, there are these
ridiculous ups and downs, dragging the audience emotionally all over the place (it
also feels 'jerky' because it sounds like it ends and starts up again un-
expectedly). Anyway, I was going to do something forbidden and make a cut in the
last page, probably ending on the chords after the first scale run (although then
it doesn't have the powerful ending like it is supposed to). I was just curious if
1. anyone else feels this annoyance at the end of the first ballade
2. what you think of making a modification to a chopin piece, and if you had to
make one to the first ballade, where would you make it
3. are there are any chopin pieces that you feel allowed to alter

I have started to learn this piece, and over time I want to be able to play the
whole thing, but I would really appreciate any advice that you guys can offer as to
how to tackle this song, particularly the part right before the first "Meno Mosso"
and the last two pages. In general though I'd appreaciate any tips on playing it or
practicing it. Thank you.

I'm working on Chopin's Ballade in g minor and am having difficulty with the last
section. If you've worked on the piece, you'll know which one I mean - the last
wild section with ascending and descending broken chords. Any tips on how to attain
the highest level of speed and clarity in this section in particular? Any rubato
suggested?

hello all. I will be starting the Chopin g minor ballade Undecided I'm not sure
how to go about starting it as it is an extremely challenging but beautiful piece.
I would like to hear any suggestions and words of wisdom that anybody may have for
me. thanks in advance for all your help.

My teacher told me to play Ballad#1, because, according to her it is easier than

Scherzo#2. Is this true?

My teacher likes to teach only pieces that she had played. Otherwise, she is very
hesitant.

To me Ballad#1 seems harder to read and demands many more techniques. In addition,
I love the sound of Scherzo#2.

Could any of you who had played or tried these two pieces give comment on the level
of difficulty of these two pieces.

Hi, I just recently played the Chopin Scherzo Op.31 and won a state competition in
it. I am currently working on the Grieg Concerto and Chopin Polonaise 0p.53. I
was wondering if the Chopin G minor Ballade is harder than the scherzo and how much
harder.

OK I guess I need moral support or something. I have been working on this for a
while, and for some reason I am having the most trouble with the FIRST PAGE -
that's right - the main theme.

I know how I want the "big" phrases to grow and shrink, and how I want the melodic
line to come out, and how I want the bass to come out - but just a little less, and
how I want the chord to be even less, and the pedalling. BUT I CAN'T seem to be
able to make myself do it - at least not all of those at the same time. I swear
it's like learning a golf swing - anybody else know what I mean?
