Saint Gabriel the Archangel

The saint I chose to write and research about it is Saint Gabriel the Archangel. Saint

Gabriel is 1 of the 3 archangels mentioned in the bible but he stuck out to me the most because

he is the messenger of God. He is a mythical creature of the bible and was said to be made by

God in heaven. Saint Gabriel not a real human being because he is an angel. Therefore, he has

no biography about him but he does have some special moments in the bible. He is mentioned in

the bible three different times.

The first story was in the Old Testament, he was sent by God to the prophet Daniel to

explain the vision God the Father had. As Daniel is sleeping Gabriel appears and starts speaking

to him. The first few days after Gabriel left, Daniel was as sick as a dog. Also, he became so tired.

A few days later, Gabriel returned to give Daniel more insight about the vision he had. Gabriel is

characterized as "one who looked like man," The second story he was mentioned in is in the New

Testament, he appeared the Zacharia. He is the father of John the Baptist. He is characterized

as "an angel of the Lord,". Gabriel says to Zacharia "Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard;

and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have

joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth." Luke 1:13. The third time he is mentioned

in the bible is when he tells Mary she will become pregnant with the son of God. He then says to

Mary, our mother, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou

among women. "Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God" Luke 1:28. "And, behold,
thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS."

"He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto

him the throne of his father David:" " and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of

his kingdom there shall be no end." Luke 1:30-33. Shortly after the annunciation of Mary, Saint

Gabriel was never spoken of again.

Mostly when you see images of Gabriel he is draped in white and blue clothing, carrying

a lily, trumpet, shining lanterns, branch from paradise, and a scroll or scepter. In art, Gabriel is

represented in the Annunciation of Mary. He is represented as the angel who blows God's trumpet,

the Lord returning to Earth. Saint Gabriel is the Patron Saint of messengers, telecommunication

workers, and postal workers. His feast day is September 29, as well as the three other Archangels.

Saint Raphael, and Saint Michael. The reason I chose him was he not only was an interesting Saint

to learn about but he has the same feast day as my childhood best friend and my boyfriend was

named after him. Gabriel means a few different things. God is mighty, God is my strength, man of

God, master of God, strong man of God, and the strength of God.

Saint Gabriel Prayer:

Blessed Saint Gabriel,

keep me in your thoughts and help me get through life and all the complications

And for the women who are going to soon bare a child

Pray for us

Amen
