Dear friends of the S 1000 RR,

We are delighted to present to you the new
edition of our S 1000 RR catalogue.
For almost two years now, the "double R" has
given the motorcycle racing world something to talk about and has been
enjoying unbroken popularity. Right from the beginning, our team too has
been fascinated by this bike and has been constantly working on improve-
ments and useful accessories – both for the road rider with racing ambi-
tions as well as the (semi-)professional rider on the race track.
The special-edition models from Wunderlich – "Cascavel", "Curarê",
"Piranha" and our prototype, the Carbon-RR – show what bikes can be
and are the centre of attention at all trade fairs and events. But it's no illu-
sion: the RRs, optimised down to every last technical detail, are greeted
with unqualified enthusiasm when ridden in races or by test ­riders.
Our light, high-performance Carbon racing motorcycle caused a sensa-
tion not just at the PS Tuner GP; it also achieved considerable success
with Nina Prinz at the "Fischereihafenrennen" (fishing port race) in Bremer-
haven. Ridden by Fritz Spenner and Dirk Schnieders at the 1,000 km race
in Hockenheim, we instantly notched up something of a moral victory with
a sensational 46 second lead.
Nils Müller and his team from 1000ps had arrived for an editorial test
report on our S 1000 RR and, until they took control of the vehicles, saw
it as just another assignment. After the tests were completed, he could
barely bring himself away from our RR concepts (all reports on races and
tests can be found in the catalogue).
Our enthusiasm for the S 1000 RR is still unbroken and we invite you to
share in this enthusiasm by taking a look at the catalogue.

Wunderlich turns 25 years old
25 years’ worth of functional products for the
individual, perfect motorcycle
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank
all of our customers and business part-
ners. In 2010, we celebrated our 25th an-
niversary. For a quarter of a century, the
Wunderlich name has been inextricably
linked to Yamaha and BMW brand motor-
cycles.
The history of the began in the garage of
Erich Wunderlich’s childhood home.
An 8-page, typewritten ‘catalogue’ intro-
duced the first products, including an in-
novative direct lubrication system for the
upper camshaft.
Two years later, the garage had become
too small, and the company relocated to
a warehouse at Ahrweiler train station. The
product range included everything from
chassis optimisation to tuning parts, and
in 1988, our current Operations Manager,
Peter Hoppe, was appointed as the first
employee.
The company had chosen a winning for-
mula – for this reason, further relocation
to an idyllic old winery, with more than
1000 m2storage space, became neces-
sary by 1989. With the acquisition of an
R 100 GS, attention was turned towards
BMW, and in 1991, our first trade fair ap-
pearance took place at the IFMA (Interna-
tional Bicycle and Motorcycle Fair) in Co-
logne where we were well- received. One

year later, 5,000 copies of our catalogue,
containing 67 pages and more than 200
products, had been distributed. Just four
years later, 20,000 copies of the catalogue
had been printed and Wunderlich had
turned its focus exclusively on BMW.
Things progressed rapidly from there. The
number of employees continued to rise
and there was a further move to our first
owned premises in Bodendorf, although
this wasn’t to be our final address. Since
2004 we’ve been located in Sinzig, where
now, in 3 buildings, we have sufficient
space for all our departments, from ad-
ministration, to development and storage.
“25 years” is easy enough to say, but to-
day’s youngest employees weren’t even
born back then, and a brief retrospective
look at the past 25 years shows that it re-
ally is a long time.
1985 At 17 years old, Boris Becker be-
comes the first German to win the Grand
Slam tournament in Wimbledon.
Establishment of the company at the pa-
rental home of Erich Wunderlich in Ahrweil-
er. The first catalogue appears: it contains
8 pages and is produced on the typewriter
belonging to Alberto Wunderlich, Erich’s
father. Focal point of the catalogue: As a
fan of high-torque motorcycles, there’s a
natural focus on the legendary single cyl-
inder vehicles by Yamaha, the XT and the
SR 500.
1986 The Soviet Union launches the nu-
clear model of the space station, ‘Mir’, into
orbit around the Earth.
Development of a system of direct lubri-
cation for the overhead camshaft in sin-
gle cylinder vehicles. The first production
exceeds the budget many times over.
The first advertisement is placed in the
‘Tourenfahrer’ motorcycle magazine, and
is met by an overwhelming response.
1987 The USA begins its installation of the
GPS.

The old warehouse is bursting at the
seams.The company moves to an idyllic
old winery in Ahrweiler, with more than
1000 m2 storage space.The first BMW ap-
pears in the fleet of company vehicles.It is
an R 100 GS.
1990 The Leaning Tower of Pisa is closed
for safety reasons.
The youngest of today’s Wunderlich em-
ployees is born.There is a gradual move
away from the Yamaha motorcycle brand.
1991 ‘Ötzi’, a more than 5000 year old
mummy, encased in glacial ice, is
discovered in the border area between
North and South Tyrol.
First trade fair appearance at the IFMA (In-
ternational Bicycle and Motorcycle Fair) in
Cologne. Wunderlich showcases the first
adapted R 100 GS with twin headlights,
twin taillights and many other refinements
1992 The Summer Games of the XXV Ol-
ympiad take place in Barcelona.
The first independent BMW accessories
catalogue appears.It contains 67 pages,
includes more than 200 accessories and
has a print run of 5000 copies.
1993 Boris Jelzin wins the first democratic
elections in Russia.
The R 1100 RS is introduced. A milestone
in the history of BMW model types and

1994 Sony launches the first Playstation
in Japan.
This is the year of the new R 1100 GS,
which results in the company turning its

1995 Jacques Chirac is elected President
of France.
The success of travel partner, ‘Münchner’,
results in continual growth for Wunderlich.
1996 The Summer Games of the XXVI Ol-
ympiad take place in Atlanta/USA

1997 The Labour Party, under Tony Blair,
wins in the House of Commons election.
In the meantime, the team has expanded
to 12 members of staff. Just 5 of these are
responsible for customer service, whether
on-site or by telephone.
1998 France is crowned FIFA World Cup
champion against Brazil, with a 3:0 victory
in Paris.
In the meantime, each year brings the re-
lease of a new catalogue and an increase
in the number of products.Wunderlich’s in-
house developments assume an increas-
ingly important role.First attendance at
the INTERMOT (International Motorcycle,
Scooter and Bicycle Fair) in Munich.
1999 Johannes Rau is elected Federal
Presindent in Germany.
Insufficient room for storage, cramped of-
fices and too few customer parking spac-
es force the company to relocate again.
This time to Bad Bodendorf.
2000 Michael Schumacher becomes Fer-
rari’s first Formula 1 world champion.
Wunderlich is one of the first companies of
its type to receive DIN/ ISO 9001 certifica-
tion, enabling it to apply for TÜV certifica-
tion.Wunderlich is represented at INTER-
MOT for the first time, with its own trade
stand measuring
65 m2.It is a huge success:importers from
all over the world squabble over the rights
of sale for the, by now, very extensive
BMW range.
2001 The Czech Republic wins the Ice
Hockey World Championships final against
Finland.
The Wunderlich GmbH becomes probably
the first company in the motorcycling sec-
tor to receive certification according to the
new “DIN/EN/ISO 9001:2000” guideline
(meets standards of KBA – Federal Motor
transport Authority).
2002 Introduction of the euro.
The first portable offices are installed at
the Bad Bodendorf site. The premises are
stretched to the limit once again. In order
to focus complete attention on the de-
velopment/testing of BMW-products, the
Yamaha business division is abandoned.
2003 Concorde makes its last flight, which
is from New York to Paris.
In the meantime, the site becomes the lo-
cation of four large white sea- containers.
The long summer makes for a good motor-

cycling season, although the temperatures
in the office containers reach over 40 °C in
some cases. The first plans are made for
a new building at Sinzig’s industrial park.
2004 Greece wins the UEFA European
Football Championship under Otto Reh-
hagel.
In January 2004, we move to the premises
on Kranzweiherweg.Wunderlich cel-
ebrates its first ‘Open Day’ with more than
1000 customers.
2005 Angela Merkel is elected Federal
Chancellor in Germany
Wunderlich celebrates its 20th anniversary
and looks forward to the next 20 years!
2006 The FIFA World Cup takes place in
Germany.
A 3D printer for rapid prototyping, a 3D
laser scanner and a new CNC milling ma-
chine are procured.
2007 Germany wins the Handball World
Championship against Poland.
The ‘Classic’ catalogue is released; by
now the 19th edition of the Wunder-
lich catalogue. Nine new employees are
appointed(Development, Marketing, Sales,
Purchasing, Dispatch, Accounts).
2008 Barack Obama is elected President
of the USA.
A new high-shelf warehouse with room for
524 pallet storage spaces and a surface
area of approx.
2009 The pilot, Chesley B. Sullenberger,
prevents catastrophe with an emergency
crash landing into the Hudson River in
New York City.
The approx. 700 page “OnRoad” catalogue
is released with a print run of 40,000issues.
2010 Wunderlich turns 25 years old and
wishes a happy birthday to Sarah Hughes,
Tianna Madison, Lily Allen, Cristiano Ron-
aldo, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Phelbs and
everyone else born in 1985.
As an extra special gift this year, the read-
ers of ‘Motorrad’ ranked us in first place in
the poll for ‘Best Brand Customizing’.

We have developed brake and clutch levers that can
be optimally adjusted in length and width to best serve
your individual needs.Simply unfasten the lever locking
screw, and adjust the length according to your personal
requirements. With the RR, for example, you’ll want more
precise dosing with less hand force, i.e. reduced length.

A miss is as good as a mile
Since the WRA team from Wunderlich
had in the past entered the BMW R 1200
R and the BMW F 800 S in the traditional
race at the Baden Motodrom, this year it
should be the new super sports by BMW,
the S 1000 RR.
With the Continental test driver Dirk
Schnieders and our racing man Fritz
Spenner, the Class 5 was tackled. In con-
trast to Class 1, in which the machines
must be left largely standard apart from
a few suspension changes and visual
touch-ups, in Class 5 much more exten-
sive changes are allowed. As a small
excerpt of the parts used here, we only
mention the use of Moto Master brake
discs, Ohlins suspension components,
racing footrests, crash pads, full Laser
racing exhaust system, Wieres drivetrain
and complete carbon fairing here.

As it already feels as if half of the Classes
1 and 5 are already on BMW S 1000 RR,
it came down to the subtleties, in order to
create an as easy as possible to handle
and actively driveable machine from the
strong-as-a-bull one litre bike, to enable
our drivers to shine against strong com-
petition.
Unfortunately, joy about the impressive
victory was short-lived.
The stewards of the meeting asked Dirk
into the office and confronted him with a
tough rule violation, whereupon the WRA
team was disqualified. Dirk had over-
taken a latecomer in the entrance to pit
lane and this was not allowed.
The victory was wasted. But “there’s no
use crying over spilt milk”. In future the
rules have to be read in depth, to prevent
similar incidents from happening. To say
everyone was disappointed is an under-
statement.
For the endurance test the Wunderlich
racers went onto the track on Easter
Saturday. Due to a small mishap during
practice two weeks earlier, where the
machine to be used had suffered minor
damage, here and there fine adjustments
had to be carried out, which resulted in
repeated brief pit stops. The mechanics
around team manager Felix Abel and
workshop leader Thomas (Icke) Schu-
mann brought the machine closer to the
ideal with each stop. At the end of the
endurance test, the troop had fought
themselves up to the fourth position.

Wunderlich S 1000 RR „PIRANHA“
The name is programme. "Did you perhaps expect
a goldfish?" I murmured in my helmet at the exit
in the Eifel.
The Wunderlich Piranha is probably the most bru-
tal motorcycle I have ever been allowed to move
on public roads. At Wunderlich somebody at the
production development let down all the barriers
and issued a full throttle slogan. No manufac-
turer of serial motorcycles dares to push such a
weapon into the showroom. Thanks to the BMW
refiner, the dream of all enthusiastic naked bike
fans became reality.
The basis of the motorcycle is a BMW S 1000 RR
with traction control, switching assistant and ABS.
The Wunderlich crew dismantles the covering and
called their French designer. This designer pro-
ceeded to act mercilessly and chose an expres-
sive contour for the naked predatory fish. The
body kit, which arose from this, is to be offered
as a product from Wunderlich in the near future
but the 1000 RR did not become a killer fish
with only a few dainty plastic parts. The enthu-
siastic motorcycle technicians from the Eifel also
screwed on the naked chassis, more or less, the
entire S 1000 RR accessories from the Wunderlich
catalogue.
Many of these parts are just for the eye, but some
are also for the opponents at the road fight.
At Wunderlich they threw in a lot of motor sport

know how into the development so that in the
end a really good motorcycle has emerged from
all the fine ingredients. Frank Hoffmann has been
on board at BMW refiner for almost a year and
works there as product developer. Previously, he
also worked, more or less, in the technical area
on every relevant motorcycle series in Europe. He
also worked as test pilot at Bridgestone and did
hundreds of laps on the north loop in the good
years and may be referred to as s motorcycle
and throttle virtuoso. The experienced racer Fritz
Spenner, against whom many fledglings in diverse
racing series have failed, is also a part of the
Wunderlich crew. Recently he spent his weekends
at Triumph Street Triple Cup, or he rides comfort-
ably 1000 kilometres from Hockenheim.
Merciless 204 HP on the rear wheel
We may experience all the competences grace-
fully and uncensored on the saddle of the Piranha.
In addition to the whole Wunderlich parts, the
S 1000 RR, which is not mild, was given a bit more
power. People speak of the tough 204 HP on the
rear wheel. One took a deep hold of engine elec-
tronics and did fine tuning with the BMW calibra-
tion tool. It is clearly in combination with relevant
accessories, air filter and with exhaust system.
Even with the gear nothing was done by halves.
Totally normal IDM standard was built in. Refined
individual Öhlins goods work at the front and the
of course, such softeners and takes pleasure in

Much experience is placed in the chassis and
suspension and you can feel this. The Piranha was
very tightly tuned to conduct precisely, simply and
stably even on the road. Surprisingly, the steering

makes the S 1000 RR into a very brutal or indeed
mobile Piranha. Only if the asphalt surface were
bumpy, then you lost faith in the sports suspen-
sion. A congenial partner of sporting suspension
is the installed Conti Sport Attack. The warm up
phase was very short and even at the upper end
of the temperature scale the tyres provided a lot
of grip. Clearly, the tyres were no longer cold
after a few minutes in the case of 200 HP and
a fast race around curve. At the beginning, you
are hopelessly overstrained. Franky presented a
merciless line with his S  1000  RR and the addi-
tional HP of the Piranha was welcomed on the
straights on the stretch unknown to us. In order
to maintain speed halfway, Nasty Nils gave up
the brake zones for a few metres, did a clean
and stress-free line on entering the curves. Full
concentration was given to leaving the curves
where the trio infernal (engine, suspension, tyres)
made an incredible accelerated inferno. The
precise projectile could be steered past asphalt
unevenness down to the exact millimetre even in
fast and long curves.
The Piranha is probably one of the few motorbikes
among which we will never find out how fast it real-
back. However, true science is the adaptation of
the chassis with such brutal performance. Frank
Hoffman and the Wunderlich crew tested a lot
and adapted the vehicle geometry accordingly.
Above all, a lot of grip on the front wheel to ride
the hard lines when entering curves on the brake
was important for him.
We ride hard lines at the exit in the Eifel. The
midday break was spent at the takeaway at Nür-
burgring befitting one's social standing. Nasty Nils
squeezed his plate (sausage with curry sauce with
French fries) with trembling hands and stammered
incoherently to himself.

The response has a frightening effect due to the

700 HP Viper just drove behind us on the north
loop):
"It can happen that the front wheel rises slightly
at 270 km/h on the motorway. Due to strong wind
pressure on the upper body, slight impulses are
enough because of road unevenness and the
front rises."
Normally, you can milk the S  1000  RR throttle
without danger, since the traction control actu-
ally brings about a wheelie control free. Whoever
plants over 200 HP in a naked bible, deactivates,
ly goes. Although one could give fire right up to the
bitter rotational speeds on German motorways, not
even the toughest test pilots dared to bring out the
last km/h on the naked saddle in the 300 league. At
high speeds one has to release way too much force
on the handlebars and, of course, this can bring
the motorcycle into turbulence. Although the high
quality Öhlins steering damper is a reliable protec-
tive shield, it cannot do wonders. Frank Hoffmann:
"Actually, the Piranha goes too fast. We would have
to translate it shorter to limit the speed. But on the
other hand, it now accelerates so brutally that it is
impossible to become even more aggressive here."
There is not much more.
Interested S  1000  RR owners need not strain
their nerves so far, if they would like to turn
their S  1000  RR into such a radical naked bike.
Wunderlich would like to offer the body kit, that
is, covering parts soon and thus one is surpris-
ingly on the road at a reasonable rate. One can
spare the additional tuning of engine or suspen-
sion - that is easy on the nerves, underpants and
of course on the bank account. Money can be
gladly spent on Wunderlich's large selection of
mounted parts.
When testing, two things became positively
apparent. In the case of so much performance,
precise feedback and control are needed and
the foot rest system "RR Vario" does it perfectly.
The boots cling firmly to the rests and give the
commands of the pilots directly to suspension.
The levers on the handlebar can be adjusted in
all conceivable variations to the needs of the rider
and is not called for nothing "VarioLever".
Although the applied ultra light PVM 6 spoked
wheels totally fit the concept very well, they make
the motorcycle considerably more expensive.
For the eye one should purchase the Wunderlich
number plate holder aluminium with the integrated
rear brake and light function. Even the serial
brakes actually made us enthusiastic, but the
used Moto Master discs fits the ravenous Piranha
wonderfully simply due to the design.
Overall, apart from the brutal performance, the
outstanding handling is, of course, the most
important feature of the motorcycle Surprisingly,
that is not only thanks to such logical things such
as the Chassis geometry or the light rims, but
also the somewhat higher and plainly better seat
"Sport Ergo". Whoever would like a Piranha has
to invest at least in the covering parts, but one
should also have money for modifying the super
bike handlebar. That is definitely a central element
of Wunderlich's dream bike and ensures (if the
wind is not blowing while riding) for a relaxing
sitting position.
1000 HP informs as soon as covering kit is avail-
able for Piranha for the S 1000 RR. Until then, one
can spend on the extensive S R 1000 RR acces-
sory programme.

Using these components, the ‘Racing’ rear cover can
be mounted to the S  1000  RR (in compliance with the
TÜV). The easily detachable number plate unit makes
the S1000 RR suitable for racing in no time at all. The
result is a new and unique racing tail whose technical
superiority and reduced weight represent new standards
of innovation.
Alongside the requisite ‘Legere_ Vario’ number plate
carrier, there’s now a thin, self-adhesive LED number
plate light. In terms of rear/brake lights, we recommend
the Kellermann indicators which integrate both func-
tions. Alternatively, the original indicators or any arbitrary
indicators can be incorporated with our ultra-flat rear

J.P. Goy - Stuntman
Two years later, everyone is still talking about
the Batman blockbuster, ‘The Dark Knight’ –
not only because of the dramatic events during
and shortly after filming, but largely because of
its impressive action scenes. And the biggest
stir has surrounded the ‘Batpod’ itself, a gigan-
tic motorbike with all kinds of special functions
and on which the film’s leading actor, Christian
Bale, frightens the life out of his fellow actors.
Of course, it wasn’t Bale himself riding the
‘Batpod’ in the film. An expert with many years
experience stepped in to do that; the interna-
tionally renowned stunt rider, Jean-Pierre Goy.
According to the Frenchman, “It was really
difficult, even to go in a straight line”. “On my
left and right, I had the big main sections of
the handlebars. The turning radius was huge,
and at speeds of up to 130 km/h, the bike
shook uncontrollably. Because of the weight
of the motorbike, the brakes also had to be
ultra-sensitive.”
“I ride motorbikes myself, but there were some
world class riders, who got on this thing and

immediately fell off again. I just had to accept
at that point that I’d never manage it. Jean-
Pierre Goy is the only person in the world who
could have mastered that bike”, said the film’s
leading actor, Christian Bale in an interview
with ‘Motorcycle News’. And it comes as no
surprise that the designers dreamt up all kinds
of special features for the bike. As not all of
the ‘normal’ parts were meant to be visible,
the frame, for example, was re-designed to
work as the exhaust too, and the cooling fins
as foot rests. The drive shafts, chains and rear
sprockets were hidden inside the chassis.Goy
drove the ‘Batpod’ in a reclining position, with
his arms held in his sleeves so that he steered
with his shoulders. But Jean-Pierre largely
‘steered’ the ‘Batpod’ through drifting and
controlled locking of the rear wheel.
But how do you develop riding skills like that?
For Goy, it all began in his earliest childhood
when he discovered and began training his
sense of balance - a key feature of his skills.
He first threw himself into mastering the uni-
cycle before switching to riding horses, testing
himself in numerous tournaments. In 1978,
Goy changed over from a horse to a 125
Ducati Enduro bike, and soon after that to a
Bultaco 125, which he used to test his talent
for ­bike trials.
For several years now, Goy and the Wunderlich
company have been inseperable as friends
and partners: in his international shows, Goy
demonstrates the resilience of Wunderlich
products and supports the company in its
development of new products. We doubt
there’s anyone better qualified to test the limits
of our new components, or to offer expert
advice to our BMW accessory specialist!
In December 2007, we also collaborated on
a very special project: with Goy as the rider,
we wanted to break the current wheelie world
record over 331 kilometres. The record-chal-
lenging vehicle was a BMW G 650 X challenge
with a backrest fitted to its seat in accordance
with the terms of Guinness World Records;

Tip: The large Torx, which is required for rear wheel

socket or a BMW specialist is required for removal of the
front wheel; you rarely come across a tyre specialist who
owns this large hexagon socket, nor is it something you
can find in a domestic tool assortment.

Now there’ll be no more issues when it comes to discon-
necting the fuel lines. These fuel couplings seal on both
sides to prevent leakage in either direction (there is a
sealing mechanism in both parts). This new black design
has a smooth inner surface, which protects the O-ring.
And should the O-ring get damaged, there is an inex-
pensive replacement. As there are no fuel taps, this is
a useful improvement that makes repairs and mainte-
