2 Installation of the OptiX Metro 500 I

This chapter describes the installation of the OptiX Metro 500 I.

2.1 Wall Mounting

2.1.1 Overview

1. Illustration

Figure 2-1 illustrates the wall mounting of the equipment.

Note that the chassis is installed with the interfaces downwards.

Figure 2-2 illustrates the necessary parts in wall mounting.

The parts include expansion bolt, mounting panel and chassis. Figure 2-3 illustrates
the mounting panel. Figure 2-4 illustrates the expansion bolt. The type of the
expansion bolt is M6×60.

2.1.2 Installation Procedure

Follow the steps below to install the OptiX Metro 500 on the wall.
Step Action
1 Decide where the unit is to be mounted.

2 Hold the mounting panel against the wall, align it vertically, and mark the
positions of the four mounting holes on the wall.

3 Put aside the mounting panel and drill four holes (ф12) at the marked
locations. Be sure that the drill bit isф12 and the depth of the four holes is 52 ~
60mm.

3 Put aside the nut, spring washer and flat washer from the expansion bolts, and
insert the expansion bolts and the expansion tubes into the holes. Be sure that
the guiding ribs of the expansion bolts are aligned with the guiding slots of the
expansion tubes. Figure 2-5 illustrates the process.

4 Attach the mounting panel to the chassis using four M3 screws. Figure 2-6
illustrates the procedure.

5 Secure the chassis and the mounting panel to the wall together using nuts,
spring washers and flat washers which are removed from the expansion bolts
in Step2. Figure 2-7 illustrates the procedure.

2.2 Installation in 19-inch Rack

2.2.1 Overview

2.2.2 Installation Procedure

Follow the steps below to install the OptiX Metro 500 in 19-inch rack.
Step Action
1 Attach two ear brackets to the chassis using four M3 screws. See Figure 2-10.

2 Attach the pallet to the cabinet using four panel fasteners. See Figure 2-11

3 Slide the chassis into the cabinet and secure it using four panel fasteners. See
Figure 2-12.

2.3 Installation in 300mm-deep ETSI Cabinet

2.3.1 Overview

Figure 2-14 illustrates the necessary parts. The mounting panel is the same as that
of wall mounting.

2.3.2 Installation Procedure

Follow the steps below to install the OptiX Metro 500 in 300mm-deep ETSI cabinet.
Step Action
1 Attach the chassis to the mounting panel using four supplied M3 screws. See
Figure 2-15.

2 Attach the mounting panel and the chassis to the cabinet together using four
supplied M6 screws. See Figure 2-16.

2.4 Installation in 600mm-deep ETSI Cabinet

The installation is the same as installation in 19-inch rack. But the ear bracket is not
same as that in 19-inch rack. See “2.2 Installation in 19-inch Rack”.

2.5 Desktop Mounting

Before the installation on a table top, it is necessary to fix the four supplied
self-adhesive pads under the equipment. See Figure 2-18.

2.6 Board Installation

SP2D, ET1D and N64 boards can be installed in the extend slot of the OptiX Metro
500 I.
Follow the steps below to install boards.
Step Action
1 With the locking lever in the open position, slide the board into the slot until the
card connector meets the backplane connector.

2 Lock the board in position by mating the locking lever with the shelf rails and
rotating the lever until it is flush with the board faceplate.

3 Fasten the two float screws.
