The Sura opens with the reference to the Day of Judgement and called
it the Inevitable event which shall definitely occur at the scheduled time which
is kown to Allah along. The people of Thamud and ’Ad controverted the Day
of Judgement. Accordingly, the Thamuds were destroyed by means of a
terrible blast while the ’Ads were killed by a fierce storm, which continuously
raged for seven nights and eight days. Then there was Pharaoh and those
before him and the dwellers of the over-turned towns, steeped in sin. They
disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord and were destroyed. When the water
(Noah’s Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, Allah carried the righteous in the
floating ark. This may serve as a memorial to the posterity and as an eye-
opener to the posterity.
The events preceding the Day of Judgement are then described in the
Sura. The trumpet will be sounded and it will give a single blast. With this the
mountains will be lifted up and with one mighty crash will be shattered into
dust. That will be Inevitable Event – the Day of Judgement – that will come to
pass.
As for the sky, it shall burst and become a pliable. The angels,
generally stationed on it, will collect on its borders and eight of them shall
bear the throne of Allah for the Judgement proceedings. Nothing could be
hidden. After the resurrection the scroll of performance shall be distributed.
Whoso is delivered the scroll in his right hand, he would be happy at its
perusal. His shall be a blissful state in a lofty garden, with clusters of fruits
within reach. Allah will say to them to eat and drink to their heart’s content as
that is their reward.
But he who is given his book in his left hand would remorsefully
exclaim that his scroll would have been never given to him. That neither his
wealth nor his power had been to any use to him. Then Lord will say to the
angels to seize him, fetter him and lead him to the Hell. He did not believe
Allah, the Magnificent, nor did he urge the feeding of the poor. Today he shall
have no friend, nor will he have any food except filth which only sinners eat.
