Sura Qiyamat (or The Resurrection)

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The Sura commences with Allah calling to witness the Day of

Resurrection and by the self-reproaching soul. Allah then discussed the
general view of the infidels that it was absurd to assume that after being
reduced to dust and bones they would again be made as living humans! Allah
repudiated their assumption and asserted that He is all powerful to do that.
The infidels assume wrongly because they wanted to continue to commit sins.

The resurrection shall be a Day when the sight of mortals is

confounded and the moon eclipsed. When sun and moon are brought together
and the man will ask:Is there a place of escape? But there will be no refuge.
They will have to be before their Lord. There he will be informed of all that he
did in his life-time. He shall be a witness against himself. However, they were
likely to put up some plea in their defence in an effort to mitigate gravity of
their sins.

Allah then admonished the Prophet not to be impatient for the Qur-anic
verses before its revelation was completed by the angel Gabriel. Allah assured
His Prophet that his apprehension to forget the revelation was unfounded and
that he should remain silent when the revelation is made to him. It was on Him
to clarify and memorise the verses.

Allah then takes up the main theme of Ressurection and the Day of
Judgement and told the Meccan infidels that their love with world has
fascinated them with the result that they have forgotten the Hereafter. Some
faces on that Day shall be radiant while others will be mournful and expecting
a great calamity to befall on them.

Allah then warned the symbolic disbeliever that when death will
approach to him, there would be no one to save him. Then he would know that
it is the final parting and the pangs of death would assail him and he would be
driven to his Lord.

In his life he neither believed nor prayed and denied the truth. Did he
think that he was created in the world without a purpose and that he would be
left unaccountable? Allah then reminded him his creation out of a sperm
emitted by his father in his mother’s womb where the conception took place.
After some time Allah developed him into a clot of flesh, which He enlivened
and gradually fashioned. Subsequently, Allah made male or female out of it.
Did the man think that Allah had lost the potentiality of creating him again
after the death? If he thinks so, he is underestimating Allah’s power.
