Term of Reference Architecture Festival Petra 2018

Contextual Micro Space

Background Issue:
Space is the right to all people without any exception. But recently, spaces for social
interaction are hardly able to be found, overthrown by the commercial functions. Whereas, if
we are observant, there are lots of wasted spaces that can be develop to fill the social needs.
The corner of an alley, the side of a river, a bridge vault, an abandoned building, and etc, are
potential spaces of the forgotten micro scale, that are actually full of creative design potential.
Reading and playing activities for children, skill or talent cultivation for the
unemployed, discussion room for the local civilians , and so much more, are some social
activities that are often destitute of space. We as the future architects, in truth are train not
just to create creative solution tactfully , but also to creatively recognize an actual social
condition then to inspect the problem, potential, and the solution.
Find the actual social issues around your environment. And find the negative micro
spaces that have potential to be developed by your creativity. Design a space with a singular
function based on a social context, not merely a sleek product, yet a brilliant design solution
for the social context itself
