The objetive of the project is to repair the documents when is necessary to improve its integrity in the future manipulation.
TREATMENTS
Surface cleaning of all documents.
Humidification of some documents to remove creases and folds and then flattened into a press.
Repair the tears, frayed edges and fractures when is consider neccesary.
Replace acidic threads with cotton ones.
CSO/RP/1827/475
Surface cleaning document.
Documents are cleaned, humidified, flattened and repair.
CSO/RP/1827/488/9 Before and after treatment. CSO/RP/1827/24/2 Before and after treatment.
Resewing.
All the acidic threads in the documents are raplaced with cotton tape; following the original technic of sewing.
TREATMENTS
Humidification, flattening and repair. Because of the sensitive watercolours this map was humidify with an ultrasonic humidifier in a chamber.
Covers before and after cleaning with smoke and wishab sponges. A thin layer of dirt was removed with CMC 1% and a swab.
Surface clean and repair insitu of 4 smaller paper maps inside the volume.
Consolidation of green
pigment with gelatine 1%
Humidifying the map in the ultrasonic chamber. Stretching vellum using a frame. Local humidification with a cannula.
PROCEDURE
Volumes are taken from shelves and cleaned the mould with smoke sponge.
Volumes are wiped with a solution of ethanol (with 20% of water) with a slightly moistened cloth, in order to
remove any additional mould residue.
After air dry, books are re-housed in acid free boxes and placed back on shelves.
PROCEDURE
Placing squares of photon paper over each photograph making sure that it is all well cover. For this purpose in some cases the text above the photo remained
below the photon paper. This one is placed at the top between lines of text and in the side over the edge of the record.
To adhere the photon paper we used Klucel G made up to 10-15% w/v with ethanol.
It was applied with a stiff hog brush on strips of approximately 10 cm x 2 cm of Spiders wet strength tarantula tissue.
These must be slightly shorter than the photon paper to ensure that they don´t obstruct lifting the flap up to view the photograph.
The text under the photon paper can still be seen Applying Klucel G at the tissue makng Placing the tissue half between text lines and
lifting the flap slight pressure half in the photon paper
Project in preservation of large maps.

Description: large maps on paper mounted on linen. They present diferent types and colors of inks.
PROCEDURE
- Dry surface cleaning at the obverse and reverse of the map.
The reverse of the maps are cleaned using a vacuum. Only maps
with a dark layer of dirt on the surface are cleaned with an extra
hard Wishab (blue back removed) and a brush before vacuumed.
The front is cleaned with smoke sponge and brush.
- Aqueous surface cleaning at the obverset of the map.
The front of the maps are cleaned using swabs. Then the maps are
flattened in a hydraulic press.
Fractured and detached parts of the map pleaced and adhered on the linen At the back, the linen is also consolidated with wheat
starch paste, adhering it to the paper map.
In case of missing support (if there is map at the front)
linen repairs are added with the wheat starch paste.

PROCEDURES
Surface cleaning of the manuscripts. Dry surface cleaning with soft brush and eraser if necessary.
Flattening. For the curls, folds and dog-ears the documents are humidified with an hydroalcoholic solution (70%) and flattened with weight and a
small an adjustable iron. For the frayed edges that are small and more fragile we used bone folders and Mylar to correct the folds.
Document with surface dirt After cleaning Flattening with heat and weight.
Removing previous interventions and repairing tears.

PROCEDURE All the paintings surface were cleaned, when it was necessary consolidating and colour re-touching techniques were applied.
Also previous interventions , discoloured varnishes and over-paintings were removed.
TREATMENTS
Dry and aqueous surface cleaning. All the dirt was removed with a brush and a vacuum. Then neutral detergent was applied with cotton. If the paint is fragile
or loose it was consolidated first. The gildings were treated too.
Consolidation of loose, flaking paint and paint craquings. The consolidants were applied by different techniques depending on each case.
