Patron Service
Librarians spend a great deal of time helping patrons locate the information they need. Patrons
often need instruction on how to use library resources, such as digital catalogs. A librarian may
show someone how to search for specific books or books that discuss certain subject matter. New
patrons will likely need assistance with the layout of the library and instructions on how to
physically locate books on the shelves. Other library resources with which librarians may assist
patrons include Internet usage and special programs. Examples of special programs include
writing workshops and reading contests.
