Letter of Recommendation for Sayler Tyson:

Garza Independence High School is an academic school of choice for students from all
comprehensive high schools in Austin, TX. Students must have 10 credits, follow an
application process, be interviewed, and attend an orientation. Students choose various
reasons to attend Garza: graduate early, increase grade point average, and participation
in our outstanding college counseling/recruiting.

Sayler Tyson labored steadily and purposely in both Advance Placement Language &
Composition, and Advance Placement Literature & Composition. She wanted the
opportunity to increase her grade point average, and have a broader selection of college
opportunities. She never complained or shied away from moving the work forward and
made immense progress in her ability to communicate orally and in writing. Whatever it
took, Sayler continued to problem solve, practice, and view learning as a positive
experience that encouraged reaching an outcome through organization and control of her
written work.

Sayler embodies a strong work ethic because of her ability for self direction, self
assessment, and self management. Even when given feedback on assignments, she
continued monitoring her performance, displaying responsibility, and exerting effort
towards completion. Her aptitude in critical reading and analytical thinking increased and
she continually practiced thoroughly researching and investigating the scope of literary
works. Whether it was the author’s life reflections or issues of the time period, Sayler
strived to discover the myriad of implications within the poem/novel that solidified her
intellectual curiosity.

Presently, Sayler is investigating/visiting numerous colleges and universities in various

states to discover the ambiance intellectually and socially to create her unique learning
experience. Her attention to specifics and willingness to evaluate her priorities, will no
doubt go beyond whatever the situation requires in order to advance academic goals and
objectives. In addition, her leadership abilities have prospered and grown through:
Principal’s Advisory Cabinet; Academic Society president; volunteering with SXSW
(South by Southwest), Art from the Streets, and The Inside Book Project.

Sayler Tyson will continue the journey of life-long learning and recognize how to benefit
her present and future communities.
