Beaches in Porto and North

of Portugal
In the North of Portugal, there is a coastline of more than 100 km of length offering
amazing beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean that are just waiting for you. We also
have beautiful river beaches that are worth discovering. In addition to the excellent
conditions for the practice of various water sports (surfing, body boarding,
kitesurfing...), surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, the North of Portugal will
surprise you with its unique cultural heritage and the harmonious combination of
tradition and modernity.

* Distance from Porto

仝Moledo Beach – Caminha

*98,4KM
Close to the border to Spain just beside the river Lima is a lovely, sandy beach. It is a
wonderful place to be on the summer,
be it for the beach, be it for the local
street cafés and small city life. Moledo
beach is considered by many as the
best beach in the north of Portugal
because of its beauty and its
therapeutic properties due to the
presence of iodine.

仝Arda Beach – Caminha

*87,5KM
The Arda Beach, a
surfing destination
in Viana do Castelo
since the 70s, is one
of the most sought-
after spots in the

2
North of Portugal for this sport. Its reputation comes from the variety of waves that can
be found there, caused by the wind and strong currents.

仝Labruge Beach – Vila do Conde

*24KM

Sand doesn’t come

much wither than in
Labruge beach. These
days it’s also hard to
find a beach with a 1-
kilometer
uninterrupted stretch of sand. All that and also a good cabins and a nudist area too make
Labruge a great beach. Its northern part has a big rocky area, so most bathers are to be
found in the central and south sides of the beach, near the mouth of the Onda river.
Don’t be surprised to see boats coming and going: there’s a lot of sports fishing in this
area.

仝Pedras do Corgo Beach – Lavra

*20KM

You approach this

beach in grandiose
style, over a
wooden gangway
protection the
dunes. When you
finally set foot on the sand, you’ll realize there’s a lot you can do: plenty of sand to walk
through, an outdoor café to cool off and area to play sports such as beach volley. If after
all that activity you don´t feel like going into the sea anymore, there are cabins available.

3
仝Moreiró Beach – Vila do Conde
*19KM

Probably the quietest

beach in this list – it
doesn’t even have any
construction around.
The one exception is the
bar, right on top of the
sand. And nobody seems to mind it being there, with its sandwiches and cool music. The
Moreiró beach is a typical family destination, for people looking to enjoy a sunny day
with little fuss.

仝Sereias Beach – Espinho

*19KM
“Praia das Sereias” means
“Mermaid Beach”, but
we’ll just come out and
say it: there are no
mermaids to be found here. What you will find plenty of families – the kind that bring
parasols, lunchboxes and big laughs you’ll hear a mile away – and big groups of friends.
This is also a good beach for surfing.

仝Aguda Beach – Vila Nova de Gaia

*17KM

An ideal beach for

those who don’t like
to sit still on the
sand. Sunbathing is
nice, but walking by
the sea or surfing

4
might be even nicer. At the “Praia da Aguda”, in Gaia, you can go from Miramar to Granja
with your feet permanently dipped in northern Portugal’s typically chilly waters.

仝Leça Beach – Matosinhos

*13Km

The “Leça da Palmeira Beach” is Matosinhos’s most crowded – and the easiest to find,
thanks to iconic
giant Nivea
advertising ball,
granting it the
popular
nickname
“Nivea Ball
Beach”. The North is bounded by the pool of Tides , an artificial salt-water pool . It’s a
hangout place for a younger crowd, but don’t worry – there’s plenty of room for
everybody.

仝Gondarém Beach – Foz

*8KM

The Gondarém Beach

has a little wide areal
that with greater tidal
range, may disappear
almost completely. A
nice place to go for a
seaside jog or take a seat in one of the outdoor cafes and restaurants.

5
仝Canide Sul Beach – Vila Nova de Gaia
*8KM

The Canide
Beach
(South), also
known as
Canidelo
Beach
(South), has a long sandy beach bordered on the north by a pontoon. The South knows
its border at the mouth of Ribeira of Canide. The sea, usually agitated, brings far water
sports lovers.
Access to the beach is made by a wooden boardwalks network that provide protection
to the existing dune system in the northern and central zones.
