Our country faces many problems nowadays, one of these is the war on drugs. We can
relate it in the movie entitled, "Batas ng Lansangan." It was a 2002 film which was starred by
Fernando Poe, Jr. He acted as Army Major Ruben Medrano, who became a part of an elite anti-
kidnapping task force. There was once an incident happened to him. He was very unlucky during
an operation given to him by his superior that got him suspended. He then sent back to Manila.
There he tries to renew ties with his daughter Marissa who has been living with his sister Mariel.
Marissa always refuses to acknowledge his father. It was because of all the shortcomings of her
father in the past. However, Ruben prefers not to leave his child. While staying with her
daughter, he discovers the presence of drug pushers and drug addicts on the area. Because of
that, he choose to make a move or do something about it. The drug lords were alarmed in time.
They were frightened that's why they hired a hit-man named Carlos to hunt down Ruben. That's
the time the community became more violent and turned into a war-zone. Ruben keeps on
defending himself and succeed.
Reaction:

Drugs is one of the seasonable topic, nowadays. A drug is any substance that,
when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed via a patch on the skin, or dissolved under
the tongue causes a physiological change in the body. It actually given to people in order to treat
or prevent an illness but it's a sad fact that drugs are being abused among people not only in our
country but also it is practiced by others. Some people become addicted to drugs only after they
begin a period of experimentation - they might start using because they want to experience the
thrill of something new, or because they want to fit in with friends who are also using.

We all know that the crisis we are facing today is about war on drugs, just like in the
movie. Lately, there are many violent killings and murders happening around us. I know you are
familiar with "Oplan Tokhang," which means “knock and plead,” is a police operation in the
country wherein authorities knock on the doors of suspected drug users or pushers and ask them
to surrender. Because of this program, people feel safer in the streets and at night because the
number of theft, carjacking, robbery, rape, physical injury has decreased.

I hope that our policemen were like Ruben Medrano, who is truly willing to turn down
illegal activities in the country. I am so happy that our government have that kind of activity for
our country but it is so disappointing that some criminals abuse this program. I know not only me
but you are also hoping for a better, safer and peaceful environment. Let's make a move and
make not only our country but the whole world a peaceful place to live.
