Roller Bearing Issue (1/2)
• Requirement of LSB Property Improvement as Project
Works
– Eight (8) inch Roller Bearing Housing
1. Without that housing, it’s impossible to perform the
balancing work for HIP rotor. In case of Unit-1, Toshiba
prepared eight inch roller bearing housing by transporting
Toshiba’s asset from Japan. However, for Unit-2, it is
unavailable due to the usage for the other job.
2. LSB Gresik has no calibration rotor for the calibration of
total balancing system. For Unit 1, Toshiba performed the
balancing of HIP rotor at Sulzer workshop for making the
calibration rotor to confirm the Owner’s LSB system,
before the delivery from Sulzer.
2
Roller Bearing Issue (2/2)
• Requirement of Roller Accuracy as Measuring Tool
– Runout of 10 Inch roller bearings were too bad as a
measuring tool. The worst reading data was 7/100 mm. See
next sheet, showing the runout data on Non driving side.
Driving side was reported to be max. 4/100 mm.
– IRD criteria is less than 2.5/100 mm.
– Toshiba’s target criteria is less than 1/100 mm.

Runout of Roller Bearing itself should be

minimum.

Why does it need such accuracy for the bearing?

That comes from their design concept of the balancer.

• IRD designed the balancer using a soft bearing concept

to make it portable.

Soft Bearing Balancing Machine

– See IRD document attached in next sheet for reference.

If there is big runout on the roller bearing,

• Its pendulum suspensions will move due to

the large mass of rotor.
• And it will be recognized by sensor as
vibration.

So, this type of balancer needs the high quality

of roller bearings, that is minimum runout.
