for friends only™

Friends Only™ is a space

that provides inspiration
and encourages creativity.
Is it a retail space with
handpicked wares? A used
book store of curated
reads? A live performance
space? A gallery? A snack
bar hellbent on providing
delicious and healthy
sandwiches? A co-working
space? A back-room tattoo
haven? A community hub for
pseudo-intellectuals and
intellectuals alike?
Yep. It is.

ings. Yes, it will have a retail element. A food/drink element. A co-working
element. The honest idea is to get great people to hang out in the same space HERE GOES:
and create some really, really great energy that will inspire and fuel the
growth of our hometown.

The space will also act as the home of Able Company, a branding and design
studio I launched two years ago to help smaller clientele find their legs. It
will become a meeting place for clients. An office for those late nights of
tweaking. And a playground for all the manic ideas that seem to fly off the
desk daily. Part of the values of Able from day one was working with, you
guessed it: Friends Only.

Thus the name. Thus the vibe we’re going for.

Vibe. That’s an important word here. Given that we want to encourage

creativity and inspiration within our walls, we need positivity at all points.
Honesty, yes. But anyone bringing the room down in any way will be re-
moved. All art work. All music. All books presented will mirror our values of
inclusivity and respect.

We aim to provide a warm, smart space for brave souls. That, but a little less
hokey. And just a hint of pretension.

Just a hint. I promise.

Sometimes the neighborhood defines what the crowd

is like. But then there are other factors: what does the
space look like? Who works there, and what are they
wearing? What’s the menu like? It’s about taking all
of these things into consideration and putting them
together in a way that gels.

As for longevity: let’s relate that to clothes. I’ve kept

the same style for years – a little androgynous, a little
boyish, a little punk rock. But I like to change the
little things, like shoes and accessories, according to the
season. The same goes with my restaurants. In general,
I’m going for timeless but fresh. Things need to evolve,
whether that means changing the design of a t-shirt or
a website, or investing in new plates or chairs. If the
businesses keep evolving, they’ll stay relevant. And if
they can stay relevant, they’ll stay successful.

I’m going to be digging in hard, both sussing out

the viablity of the project and bulldozing as if its
happening at the same time. Either way I can make
use of the materials I’ll be gathering.

No phone calls. I need paper trails. (And the phone

This is gonna be good. Buckle up.
