CHAPTER – 2

THE
MAJESTIC
QUR-ANIC
PRAYERS

12
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . for truly
My Lord is He, the Hearer
Of Prayer

............... Q 14 : 39

13
The Message of God is a guide that is sure to those who seek light. But
those who reject faith are blind: their hearts are sealed. God needs no praise, for
He is above all praise. He needs no petition, for He very well knows needs better
that we do ourselves. His bounties are open without asking, to the righteous and
the unrighteous alike. The prayers are for our own spiritual education,
consolation, and confirmation. When one reaches to the upper strata of spiritual
enlightment, the supplicates will flow spontaneously from his inner mystic
doctrine built - up. Realizing in the soul God’s love and care, His grace and
mercy, and His power and justice, the immediate result is that one bends in the
act of worship, and see both his short comings and His all-sufficient power. It is
not only one reaches the position of worshipping God and begging for His help,
but one worship Him alone and ask for His aid only. For there is none other than
He worthy of ones devotion and able to help him.

Before the study of the verses of the Quran, one has to realize that the
words are the similar, identical in every respect as revealed to the holy Prophet.
A verse of Qur-an reads: “This is the Book; In it is guidance sure, without doubt,
To those who fear God.” As a guidance for the recitation, the following points
should be taken care of:-

i. “And when you recite the Qur-an, seek refuge with God from Satan,
the rejected.” (4 : 98)

ii. And when the Qur-an is recited, give ear to it and maintain silence so
that you may be shown mercy.” (7 : 204)

iii. Recite the Qur-an clearly, slowly and not musically, neither too
loudly nor inaudibly. It is definitely better to read the Qur-an than to
recite it from memory. (Tradition).

14
PRAYER – 1

 A Comprehensive prayer on all events in the life of mankind.

1:1 In the name of God, Most

Gracious, Most Merciful

1:2 Praise be to God, The Cherisher

and Sustainer of the Worlds;

1:3 Most Gracious, Most Merciful;

1:4 Ruler of the Day of Judgment

1: 5 Thee do we worship, And Thine

aid we seek.

1: 6 Show us the straight way,

1: 7 The way of those on whom Thous

hast bestowed Thy Grace, Not of
those Whose portion is Wrath Nor
of those who stray

Sura Fatiha (or Opening Chapter) is variously named. It contains seven verses
and is termed as the very “essence” of the glorious Qur-an. It’s recitation in each
section (rakat) of the daily prayers (5 times) is mandatory. The Qur-an has called
these verses as, “Seven Oft-repeated Verses” “And We have bestowed upon thee
the seven oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur-an” (18:87). Nevertheless, the
verses are not only sublime and simple, but also the most universal in its
character and appeal. It invokes in the most suitable words and in the most
appealing manner the aid and guidance of God for leading a straight course of
conduct in the world.

15
PRAYER – 2

 Prayer provides antidote to superstition and fear arising from evil plottings
and envy on the part of others:

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

113:1 Say: I seek refuse

With the Lord of the Dawn

113:2 From the mischief

Of created things,

113:3 From the mischief

Of Darkness as it overspreads;

113:4 From the mischief

Of those who practice
Secret Arts;

113:5 And from the mischief

Of the envious one
As he practices envy.

This is a prayer which the Omnipotent revealed to the holy Apostle. The
recitation provides the antidote to superstition and fear. It teaches to seek refuge
in God from evil plottings and envy on the part of Satnic influences of any form.

16
PRAYER – 3

 A shield and protection especially against the secret evil wispers within our
own hearts.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

114:1 Say: I seek refuge

With the Lord
And Cherisher of Mankind.

114:2 The King (or Ruler)

Of Mankind.

114:3 The God (or Judge)

Of Mankind, –

114:4 From the mischief

Of the Whisper
(Of Evil), who withdraws
(After his whisper), –

114:5 (The same) who whispers

Into the hearts of Mankind, –

114:6 Among Jinns

And among Men.

This is a prayer which the Lord, Maker and the Cherisher, has Himself taught to
the mankind. The Satanic forces cunningly and secretely whisper evil and then
with draw, to make their net more subtle and alluring. The recitation of these
verses protects from evil ones among men and jinns who are bend upon to creat
doubts in the minds. The Glorious Quran concludes with this Sura, which in a
way is a continuation of the previous verses. Nevertheless, it is a lesson to have
trust in the Almighty rather than in any such people who practice evil rituals, etc.

17
PRAYER – 4

 Prayer to invoke Mercy of God for a successor to continue fathers mission.

19:4 Praying: O my Lord

Infirm indeed are my bones,
And the hair of my head
Doth glisten with:
But never am I unblest,
O my Lord, in my prayer
To Thee!

Men of faith show their qualities. In their private relationships as much as in

their public ministry. Zakariya was anxious, in a world of unrighteousness, to
find a successor to continue his godly errand. God heard him. He was blessed
with a son, Yahya, who heralded Jesus, and lived a life of wisdom, gentle love,
and purity.

The Mercy of God to Zakariya was shown in many ways: (i) in the acceptance
of his prayer; (ii) in bestowing a son like Yahya; and (iii) in the love between
father and son, in addition to the work which Yahya did as God’s Messenger for
the world. Indeed, the prayer is not to loose hope in the Mercy of God.

18
PRAYER – 5

 At times of danger, fear, calamity or war.

3:173 “For us God sufficeth,

And He is the best
Disposal of affairs”.

This prayer was used to be recited by the companions of the Apostle (PBUH) at
the time of different battles which they faught for the glory of Islam. This prayer
puts courage in the hearts at the times of dangerous undertakings in line with the
will of God

PRAYER – 6 (a)

 For the welfare of both the worlds

3:26 “Oh God!
Lord of Power (and Rule)
Thou givest Power
To who Thou pleasest.
And Thou strippest off Power
From whom Thou pleasest:
Thou eduest with honour
Whom Thou pleasest,
And Thou bringest low
Whom Thou pleasest:
In Thy hand is all Good.
Over all things
Thou hast power.”

19
3:27 “Thou causest the Night
To gain on the Day,
And Thou causest the Day
To gain on the Night;
Thou bringest the Living
Out of the Dead,
And Thou bringest the Dead
Out of the Living;
And Thou givest sustenance
To whom Thou pleasest,
Without measure”

PRAYER – 6 (b)

2:201 “Our Lord” Give us

Good in this world
And good in the Hereafter.
And defend us
From the torment
Of the Fire!”

These are the prayers, which God has taught to the faithfulls to pray with. Indeed
the Most Gracious likes his servants to praise Him with the words as He likes.

20
PRAYER – 7

 To beg for guidance blessing and sustenance from the Almighty.

3:8 “Our Lord!” they say,

“Let not our hearts deviate
Now after Thou has guided us,
But grant us mercy
From Thine own Presence;
For Thou art the Grantor
Of bounties without measure.

3:9 “Our Lord! Thou are He

That will gather mankind
Together against a Day about which
There is no doubt; for Allah
Never fails in his promise”.

This is a prayer which God has himself worded for the faithfuls to beg from
Him. This prayer is to beg welfare for both the worlds.

21
PRAYER – 8

 To be bestowed with an offspring.

21:89 “Oh my Lord! Leave me not

Without offspring, though Thou
Art the best of inheritors”.

Zakaria, a priest of the Most High God, and his wife were old, and they had no
son. He was troubled in mind and desired to have a son. This desire was based
on his feelings that his people were not sincerely devoted in the way of their
Creator. As such he prayed for his successor to carry-out his mission after his
passing away. His prayer was granted and he was blessed with a son Yahya (John
the Baptist). Yahya was a noble, chaste and a prophet).

22
PRAYER – 9

To beg for the forgiveness of sins and to be protected from difficulties in

religious as well as worldly matters.

2:286 “Our Lord!

Condemn us not
If we forget or fall
Into error; our Lord
Lay not on us a burden
Like that which Thou
Didst lay on those before us;
Our Lord! Lay not on us
A burden greater than we
Have strength to bear.
Blot out our sins,
And grant us forgiveness.
Have mercy on us.
Thou art our Protector;
Help us against those
Who stand against Faith.

23
PRAYER – 10

 For the welfare of both the worlds

3:191 “Our Lord! not for naught
Has Thou created (all) this!
Glory to Thee! Give us
Salvation from the Penalty
Of the fire”.

3:192 “Our Lord! Any whom Thou

Dost admit to the Fire,
Truly Thou coverest with shame,
And never will wrong-doers
Find any helpers!”

3:193 “Our Lord! we have heard

The call of one calling
(Us) to Faith, ‘Believe ye
In the Lord,’ and we
Have believed. Our Lord!
Forgive us our sins,
Blot out from us
Our iniquities, and take
To Thyself our souls
In the company of the
righteous.”

3:194 “Our Lord! Grant us

What Thou didst promise
Unto us through Thine Aposles,
And save us from shame
On the day of Judgement:
For Thou never breakest
Thy promise.

A comprehensive prayer which holy Prophet used to say after the Morning
Prayer before leaving for home and looking at the horizon.

24
PRAYER – 11

 A prayer for the faithfuls

3:53 “Our Lord! We believe

In what Thou hast revealed,
And we follow the Apostle;
Then write us down
Among those who bear witness”

This is a prayer of the Disciples of Jesus. A sublime submission to the Will of

God. It was the one Religion – the Religion of God. This was in essence the
religion of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: bowing to the Will of God.

PRAYER – 12

 For forgiveness of the sins and to be spared from the Hell on the Day of
Judgement.

3:16 “Our Lord! We have indeed

Believed: forgive us, then,
Our sins, and save us
From the agony of the Fire;” –

True servants of God possess the virtues of faith, humility and hope. They pray
for gorgiveness of their sins and fear the Fire of Hell. They cry for mercy in this
world and in the Hereafter.

25
PRAYER – 13

 A prayer for the Mercy of God by the godly men at war with the evil ones

3:147 Our Lord! Forgive us

Our sins and anything
We may have done
That transgressed our duty:
Establish our feet firmly,
And help us against
This people that resisteth
Faith.”

The Prophets of God had always to strive in the way of the Lord. As well are
with them the Believers on the side of the Prophets. These band of people never
lost heart even in face of disasters which they have to encounter. They fought
with a firm will. They were sure God loves those who are firm and steadfast. If
they died, they got the crown of martyrdom. If they lived, they were heros
honoured in this life and the next.

26
PRAYER – 14

 Prayer for the relief of bodly pain.

21:83 “Truly distress has seized me,

But Thou art the Most
Merciful of those that are
Merciful.”

Job (Aiyub) was an Apostle and was a pattern of humility, patience, and faith in
God. It was with these weapons that he fought and conquered evil. He suffered
from a number of calamities: his family crushed under roof, his servants slained,
his cattle destroyed. As a further calamity, his body covered with loathsome
sores from head to foot. His own kins, friends, town people left him. He was
kept away from the town. Only his wife was with him. It was at this stage of
affairs that he called upon his Lord. The All-Merciful heard him. He was
restored to prosperity, health and happiness, much more he had earlier. The Bible
and the Quran describe Aiyub as a symbol of humility, patience, and faith in his
Creator

PRAYER – 15

 Prayer when afflicted with any sort of calamity, loss of life or property.

2:156 “To God

We belong, and to Him
Is Our return”: –

Faithfuls do possess the virtues of patience and perseverance. But they should be
prepared for test by their Creator. They may be tested something of fear, hunger,
some loss in goods or lives or the fruits or of their toil. Those who preserve,
there are glad tidings for them from their Lord. When these faithfuls are put to
test, they simply bow before their Lord in humility and claim everything they
possess to Him.

27
PRAYER – 16

 Prayer to be at a distance from the ignorants who like to make fun of the
learned ones.

2:67 …………….. “God save me

From being an ignorant fool!

The background of this verse is that a man was murdered. The matter about the
identity of the murderer raised a serious controversy. Moses was consulted.
Acting under the Divine orders, Moses asked the \Israelites to sacrifice a heifer.
Unnecessary questions were put to Moses regarding the sacrificial animal. Their
questions were carping criticisms rather than the result of a desire for
information. Eventually, animal as directed was slaughtered. Moses touched the
corpse with a piece of the flesh of the animal. The dead man spoke and identified
the murderer. It was during this episode that the Israelites said: “Makest thou
alaughing-stock of us?” It is here Moses replied as the verse as quoted (prayer).
It is noteworthy Quran assumes the story, but tells the parable. This is the way of
Quranic narrations of the past events.

28
PRAYER – 17

 Solace of mind and heart specially at the time of any dispute or jehad (war in
way of God) with infidels.

2:250 “Our Lord!

Pour out conjstancy on us
And make our steps firm:
Help us against those
That reject faith”.

This prayer is in the reference of the story of David and his army of faithfuls
arranged against the army of infidels led by a legendry strong man Jaloot
(Goliath). This is the prayer of the faithfuls as they called upon the Lord, for His
gracious held. The Omnipotent helped them. Goliath was killed by David and his
forces were defeated.

Nevertheless, the whole story is compressed into a few words as regards its
narration. As it is, the spirituous lessons are dwelt upon from many points. It is
indeed a great favour of God to the mankind that He checks the aggression of
one set of persons by means of another set. Else, due to the unchecked
aggressiveness of certain people chaos would have prevailed in the world.

29
PRAYER – 18

 To invoke His mercy, success, easeness and victory on enemies

2:285 “We hear, and we obey:
(We seek) Thy forgiveness, Our Lord,
and to Thee
Is the end of all journeys.”

When our faith and conduct are sincere, we realize how far from perfection we
are, and we humbly pray to God for the forgiveness of our sins. We feel that God
imposes no burden on us that we cannot bear, and with this realization in our
hearts and in the confession of our lips, we go to Him and ask for His help and
guidance.
This prayer when recited with full humbleness, God will bestow on him His
infinite mercy in this world and in the Hereafter. It is said that when the holy
Prophet recited this verse, the angels around used to say “Ameen” at the end of
the recitation.

PRAYER – 19

 Salvation from the tyranny of the oppressors and under most tyring
conditions for existence.
4:75 Rescue us from this town,
Whose people are oppressors;
And raise from us from Thee
One who will protect,
One who will help!”

No matter what, from any angle, the cause of God is the cause of justice – the
cause of the oppressed. In the extreme persecution, before the fall of Mecca,
what sorrows, threats, tortures, and oppressions, were suffered by the
downtrodden followers of the Prophet (pbuh)?. They were mocked, assaulted,
insulted, beaten, put in the chains, cast into prisons, boycotted, shut out of trade,
business, social interaction and ill treated by every possible manner under the
sun. The prayer is the cry of those men, women and the children of the followers
of Muhammad (pbuh) living under the domination of pagan Quraish of Mecca.

30
PRAYER – 20

 For the reinforcement of the faith and entire submission to the Almighty.
6:162 Say: “Truly, my prayer
And my service of sacrifice,
My life and my death,
Are (all) for God,
The Cherisher of the Worlds

6:163 No partner hath He:

This am I taught,
And I am the first
Of those who bow
To His Will.

A supplicate revealed by the Lord for His servants. A doctrine of personal

dedication embodies a cardinal principle of Faith. A believer dedicates every
thing to His service to Him alone.

PRAYER – 21

 For the forgiveness of sins and to beg for His Mercy.

7:23 “Our Lord!
We have wronged our own souls:
If Thou forgive us not
And bestow not upon us
Thy Mercy, we shall
Certainly be lost.”

This is the prayer of Adam. He and his spouse committed the fatal lapse in
contravention of God’s express orders to them. Consequently, they on
themselves caused Divine displease. The Omniscient ordered their expulsion
from Paradise. It was then he cried for mercy and repented on his folly. His
prayer was granted and he was forgiven

31
PRAYER – 22

 A supplicate to be saved from the Hell of the Day of Reckoning.

7:47 “Our Lord! Send us not

To the company
Of the wrong-doers”.

This is a prayer of the companions of the Garden, who will realize the terrible
nature of the Hell, and express their horror and supplicate to their Lord (to save
them from the Fire).

PRAYER – 23

 An appeal to God,for the decision of intricate matters.

7:89 “Our Lord! Decide thou

Between us and our people
In truth, for thou
Art the best to decide”.

This is a prayer of Apostle Shu’ab when he became hopeless of his people ever
listen to him. The righteous always turn to God, Who sits on the Thrown of
Truth, and Whose decisions will, therefore, be free from any error.

32
PRAYER – 24

 Prayer when encountering unjust and tyrant people.

7:126 “Our Lord! Pour out on us
Patience and constancy, and take
Our souls unto Thee
As Muslims who bow
To Thy Will!”

This is the prayer of those sorcers of Pharaoh who were summoned by him to
defeat Moses miracles by their magical wits. But these magic-men failed. With
God’s grace behind Moses, he was able to expose all false trickery and
established the Truth. The conscience of humbler ones amongst them awaked.
They fell down to the ground in adoration of the Lord of the Worlds, and
confessed their faith in Mose’s God.

PRAYER – 25

 For forgiveness for foolish human desires

7:143 “Praise be to Thee! To Thee

I turn in repentance, and I
Am the first to believe”.

This is one of the many prayers of Apostle Moses. He asked to show him His
Divine reality. The Almighty treated Mose’s foolish request with Divine mercy
and compassion. The Cherisher of all His creatures, manifested His glory on
Mount which became dust. Moses fell down. When he recovered from his swoon
he realized his errorious ambition and repented for his folly

33
PRAYER – 26

 Prayer for repentance of the wrongdoings; consequent forgiveness and

begging for goodness, in this world and in Hereafter.

7:155 “Thou art our Protector:

So forgive us and give us
Thy mercy; for Thou art
The best of those who forgive.”

7:156 “And ordan for us

That which is good,
In this life
And in the Hereafter:
For we have turned unto Thee.”

This is a prayer of Moses. He was guiltless but he identifies himself with his
whole people, and intercedes with God on their behalf. He pleads for mercy for
such as erred from weakness and not from contumacy, and were truly repentant.

34
PRAYER – 27

 Prayer for Gods blessings on parents, children and for entire brotherhood of
Islam.

14:40 “Oh my Lord! Make me

One who establishes regular Prayer,
And also (raise such)
Among my offspring,
Oh our Lord!

And accept hou my Prayer.

14:41 “Oh our Lord! Cover (us)
With Thy Forgiveness – me,
My parents, and (all) Believers,
On the Day that the Reckoning
Will be established!”

Sincere and true prayer in faith is answered, by the Omnipotent. This a prayer of
Abraham. Abraham prays for his progeny. He then prays for God’s grace on
himself, his parents, and whole Brotherhood of Faith, irrespective of Faith,
family or race or time, to be perfected in the ideal of Islam.

35
PRAYER – 28

 Prayer for safeguard from the tyranny of the evil forces.

10:85 “In God
Do we put our trust.
Our Lord! Make us not
A trial for those
Who practice oppression;

10:86 And deliver us by Thy Mercy

From those who reject (Thee)”.

The prayer is that the righteous people, being weak, may be saved from the
forces oppression and repression. As a matter of fact, weakness tempts Power to
practice oppression, and is thus an occasion of trial for the oppressor. These are
the words of those followers of Moses who were the first few Islaelites who
believed in the Message of Moses.

PRAYER – 29

 Special prayer from the Almighty to the mankind for their parents.
17:24 “My Lord! Bestow on them
Thy Mercy even as they
Cherished me in childhood.”

This is a prayer to mankind from the Lord Himself. The Lord has decreed that
the offspring should be kind and humble to their parents. Parental love should be
to us a type of divine love. Nothing that we can do can ever really compensate
for that which we have received. We cannot expect God’s forgiveness if we are
rude or unkind tro those who unselfishly brought us up. There is something here
more than simple human gratitude: it goes up into the highest spiritual region.

36
PRAYER – 30

 Prayer at entry and exit at every stage of life

17:80 “O my Lord!
Let my entry be
By the Gate of Truth
And Honour, and likewise
My exit by the Gate
Of Truth and Honour;
And grant me
From Thy Presence
And authority to aid (me).”

A prayer for the mankind from his Creator. The entry and exit here may be
interpreted in four senses:

(i) entry into death and exit at the resurretion for the righteous, who have
purified their souls by prayer and spiritual teaching from the Quran. For
those who are estranged from God, the effect is the opposite.
(ii) entry for the holy Prophet into the new life of Madinah, which was still to
become a reality, and exit from the life of persecution and falsehood, which
surrounded him in his native city of Mecca still entangled in idolatry.
(iii) referring to the impending Hijrat, with motive of truth and spiritual honour,
and not from motives of anger against the city of Mecca.
(iv) generally, entry and exit at every stage of life.

All prayer must be for God’s aid and authority. However much we may plan, our
success must depend on His aid. However noble our motives, we have no right
to imperil any lives unless there is authority in the Word of God. The Apostle
only acts on God’s commission and inspiration.

37
PRAYER – 31

 For cheerful submission of soul at the death for the final union with the
righteous.

12:101 “Creator of the heavens

And the earth! Thou art
My Protector in this world
And in the Hereafter.
Take Thou my soul (at death)
As one submitting to Thy Will
(As a Muslim), and unite me
With the righteous.”

This is the last prayer of Apostle Joseph (Yusuf) son of Apostle Israel / Jacob
(Yaqoob) At the fag-end of his life, although he held supreme power under the
king, he prayed to his Creator for protection in this world and in the hereafter. In
full submission he may depart and longed to be among the faithfuls

PRAYER – 32

 Peace and prosperity of the land and to avoid any chance of famine or war.

2:126 “My Lord, make this a City

Of Peace, and feed its People
With Fruits, – such of them
As believe in God and the Last Day.”

This is the prayer of Abraham with reference to the city of Mecca. This prayer be
recited to avoid any calamity to fall on the city

38
PRAYER – 33

 For acceptance of good deeds, welfare of the children. Blessings for the
students seeking knowledge and on the execution of a new building project.

2:127 Accept (this service) from us:

For Thou art the All – hearing,
The All – knowing.

2:128 “Our Lord! Make of us

Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will),
And of our progeny a people
Muslim, bowing to Thy (Will);
And show us our places
For the celebration of Thy rites;
And turn unto us (in Mercy);
For Thou art the Oft-returning,
Most Merciful.

2:129 “Our Lord! Send amongst them

An Apostle of their own,
Who shall rehearse Thy Signs
To them and instruct them
In Scripture and Wisdom,
And sanctify them:
For Thou art the Exalted,
The Wise.

Abrahim and his elder son Ismail built Ka’ba and established the rites and
usages of the sacred city. He offers and dedicates the work to God in humble
supplication, addressing him as the All-hearing and All-knowing. He then begs
for blessings on himself and his posterity. That is, progeny of his sons Ismail and
the younger son Isaac. He prays for God’s mercy. Addressing the Lord as the
Oft-returning, Most Merciful.

He foresees corruption in the city of Mecca – especially in Ka’ba itself – and

wishes the Almighty to bestow on them a Messenger to guide them on the
Divine path.

39
PRAYER – 34

 For the mercy and blessing from the Almighty

18:10 “Our Lord! bestow on us
Mercy from Thyself,
And dispose of our affair
For us in the right way!”

This is the prayer of the youths of the cave. These youths hid in the cave to
escape from the tyranny of a pagan king.

PRAYER – 35

 Prayer for the courage and perseverance.

20:25 “O my Lord!
Expand me my breast;

20:26 Ease my task for me;

20:27 And remove the impediment

From my speech,

20:28 So they may understand

What I say:”

This is a prayer of Apostle Moses. Moses, having been spiritually prepared, now
gets the definite Command to go to Pharaoh and point out the error of his ways.
It was a tall order for Moses. A task which seemed to him colossal. He then
prays for (i) to expand his breast as it is the seat of encouragement, knowledge
and affection (ii) God’s help in his task (iii) the gift of eloquence and removal of
impediment from his speech.

40
PRAYER – 36

 For the enhancement of the knowledge

20:114 “O my Lord! Advance me

In knowledge.”

God is Truth, the absolute Truth. The Truth unfolds itself gradually, as it did in
the gradual revelation of the Quran to the holy Apostle. But even after it was
completed in a volume, its true meaning and purpose only gradually unfold
themselves to any given individual or nation. No one should be impatient about
it. On the contrary, we should always pray for increase in our own knowledge,
which can never at any given moment be complete.

PRAYER – 37

 Prayer for offspring

21:89 “O my Lord! Leave me not
Without offspring, though Thou
Art the best of inheritors.”

Zakaria was a priest. Both, he and his wife were devoted to their prayers. They
were old, and they had no son. He was worried because he felt that his people
were not unselfishly devout He apprehended that his mission would be undone.
His prayer for an heir was granted. He was given a son Yahya (John the Baptist).
The son was noble, chaste and a prophet.

41
PRAYER – 38

 To invoke God’s mercy from the sinners and unrighteous persons

23:26 ………….“O my Lord!

Help me: for that they
Accus me of falsehood!”

Apostle Noah walked righteously and humbly as in the sight of God. With
unselfish love for his people, he warned them and taught them. But they did flout
and reject his Message with scorn and insults. They accused him of falsehood
and called him a “liar”. In a bitter anguish and grief, Noah called upon his Lord
to help him. It was then God inspired him to construct the Ark by which he
sailed off with his followers while the others were drowned in the Flood. This
Flood engulfed the entire earth and purified it from sin and unrighteousness

PRAYER – 39

 Prayer while embarking on any kind of transport – specially sea

transportation.

11:41 “In the name of God,

Whether it move
Or be at rest!
For my Lord is, be sure,
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful!”

This is the prayer of Noah when, by the Command, he was embarking on the
Ark. He and his followers were saved from the Flood, which engulfed his people
and the entire humanity on the earth. No one was saved except those who were
with Noah on the Ark.

42
PRAYER – 40

 Prayer when disembarking from any transportation mode.

23:29 “O my Lord!
Enable me to disembark
With Thy blessing: for Thou
Art the Best to enable (us)
To disembark.”

This prayer was inspired to Noah when the Flood subsided and he was about to
disembark from the Ark. Indeed, Noah’s contemporaries had all sorts of chances
and warnings. But they refused to believe and perished. But God’s Truth
survived, and it went to the next and succeeding generations.

PRAYER – 41

 Prayer for avoiding the company of the evil ones and for the forgiveness of
one’s own misdeeds.

23:93 “O my Lord!
If Thou wilt show me
(In my lifetime) that which
They are warned “against, – ”

23:94 “Then O my Lord! Put me not

Amongst the people
Who do wrong!

In the first instant, this prayer is applied to the holy Apostle. His subsequent
Hijrat from Mecca to Madinah and the eventual overthrow of the Meccan Chiefs
amply prove the fulfillment of the prophecy. But in general meaning it applies to
all. We are taught that the evil will be visited with a terrible punishment, not only
in the Hereafter, but in this very life when the time comes in the God’s Plan. If it
has to come while we are still on the scene of the life, we are asked to pray that
we may not be found in the company of those who draw such punishment on
themselves. In other words we must eschew evil and do not pay back evil in its
own coin.

PRAYER – 42

 Prayer for avoiding Satanic mischief creators – seen or unseen

23:97 “O my Lord!
I seek refuge with Thee
From the suggestions
Of the Evil Ones”.

23:98 “And I seek refuge with Thee

O my Lord! Lest they
Should come near me.”

One should shun evil. It can only be done by seeking help and protection from
God. Not only must we shun all promptings of evil, but we must shun its
proximity. And in this matter we should seek God’s help. This prayer keeps away
the Satanic forces from insisting those who are afraid of God’s punishment and
like goodness in all its forms.

PRAYER – 43

 For forgiveness for misdeeds and to call upon His mercy.

23:109 “Our Lord! We believe;
Then do Thou forgive us,
And have mercy upon us:
For Thou art the Best
Of those who show mercy!”

The Almighty has Himself praised the faithfuls who pray as such. This prayer is
a weapon to fight the evil and request for mercy from the Most Merciful.

44
PRAYER – 44

 For forgiveness of sins by invoking God’s mercy.

23:118 …………“O my Lord!
Grant Thou forgiveness and mercy!
For Thou art the Best
Of those who show mercy!”

Once death cuts us off from this world then we have to wait only for His
judgment. Non can pass that barrier. Our deeds will be weighted. Happy are
those whose good weighs more in the scale of judgement than the evil. Only
Faith and goodness will prevail in the end. Thus we should always pray for his
forgiveness and infinite mercy. So glory to the Lord of the Worlds, the exalted of
Mercy and Honour.

PRAYER – 45

 This is a prayer of humility for the good ones to be more nearer to God.

25:65 ………..“Our Lord!

Avert from us the Wrath
Of Hell, for its Wrath
Is indeed an affliction grevious, –

A humble prayer brings the good ones nearer to God. Such a person relies, not
on any good deeds which he may have done, but on the Grace and Mercy of
God; and he shows a lively sense of the Day of Judgement, when every action
will weigh for or against a soul. The misery which results from sin is not only
grevious to live in (“an abode”) but also grievous “to rest in” or “to stand in”, if
it be only for a short time.

45
PRAYER – 46

 A prayer for the tranquility of the soul and for being a righteous persons.

25:74 “Our Lord! Grant unto us

Wives and offspring who will be
The comfort of our eyes,
And give us (the grace)(
To lead the righteous.

We must also pray for the maintenance of God’s Law after us, through our wives
and posterity. For our eyes, they should be real comfort and God’s Grace. Let
they be able to give a lead for truth and righteousness. This prayer and the
preceding prayer is termed by the Lord as the prayers of His special servants.

46
PRAYER – 47

 Prayer to be righteous in dealings with others while being grateful to God for
His talents bestowed upon him.

27:19 “O my Lord! So order me

That I may be grateful
For Thy favours, which Thou
Hast bestowed on me and
On my father, and that
I may work the righteousness
That will please thee:
And admit me, by Thy Grace,
To the ranks of Thy
Righteous Servants.”

This is a prayer of apostle-king Solomon. He was gifted with Wisdom and

Knowledge. One day while passing through a valley of ants he heard an ant
saying to the others as – O you ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and
his hosts crush you under foot without knowing it.” Solomon heard it. At this, he
prayed that power, wisdom, and all other God given gifts to him may be used for
righteousness and for the benefit of all around him. Solomon prayed that he
might always take God’s Will as his standard, rather than the preoccupations
with the great things of this world.

47
PRAYER – 48

 For forgiveness if any wrong is committed unknowingly.

28:16 “O my Lord!
I have indeed wronged my soul!
Do Thou then forgive me!”

Moses in Egypt saw two men fighting. One of them was of his own religion
while the other was his foes. The man of his own religion appealed him for help.
Moses struck the other with his fist. To Mose’s surprise, the man died. Moses
considered himself guilty of the murder. He than prayed to Almighty for His
forgiveness. The All-Merciful forgave him.

PRAYER – 49

 Prayer for safety from the enemies and the evil ones.

28:21 “O my Lord! Save me

From people given to wrong-
doing.”

Moses saw that his position was now untenable, both in the Pharaoh’s palace
where he was brought up and in the City itself. Indeed, anywhere in the
Pharaoh’s territory, for that matter. But he did not know where to go. He turned
to God for the help. God heard him and he was guid ed towards a place known
as Madyan. So he suffered voluntary exile and was saved from injustice and
oppression of the ruler.
