I. TOWER STANDARD DESIGN CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS
The towers shall be designed to meet the high standards of durability and functionality needed for
telecommunications steel structure and accessories. All the elements shall be sufficiently strong at any
point to allow for the fixing of loads and accessories.
A. STANDARD REFERENCE
a) TIA / EIA = 222 –G Standard: Structural Standards for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna
Supporting Structures.
The structure classification and default terrain parameter are refer to Annex A.2.2, A.2.6.5
and A.2.6.6 in TIA-222-G design standard are flowing:
Structure Class: II
Exposure Category: C
Topographic Category: 1
Each tower type the top section must be 8m minimum straight portion (Not
tapered) with tower height adjustable as separated to 1 section of 4m and 2
sections of 2m.
Main legs of top straight section are made of tubular round.
Triangular tower cross sections (3 Legs)
Main legs and bracing are made of tubular round or angular steel.
b) Steel Shapes & Plates accordance with ASTM A 36 / JIS G3101 fy = 245 MPa or can
be replace with higher grade of steel to meet loading requirement and material
efficiencies.
2) Bolt &Nut
Splice Bolts = ASTM A = 325 / JIS B1051 = Grade 8.8 fy = 560 MPa (Equivalent or Higher)
3) Anchor Bolt
4) First/Primary Coating
5) Concrete
6) Rebars
7) Welding Electrodes
1) Dead Load
2) Wind Load
Calculated according to TIA / EIA = 222 –G Standard: Structural Standard for Steel
Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures.
The basic wind speed is based on peak gust velocity averaged over a short time interval
of 3 second (3 second gust) to withstand with the following Myanmar standard
regional basic wind speed:
1. 130 km/h
2. 160 km/h
3. 200 km/h
4. 225 km/h
3) Seismic Load
Calculated according to TIA / EIA = 222 –G Standard: Structural Standard for Steel
Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures
The maximum accelerations Ss = 2.25 and S1 = 0.9 with the following Myanmar
standard regional.
Table. 1: Antenna Configuration and Total loading Area (see attached reference schematics)
o Tower design and analysis shall be consider antennas loads are included force
coefficient (CA)
o Type and shape of antenna
1. Allowable Stress Ratio = 1 (calculated on basic wind speed condition refer to its regional
area)
2. Allowable Twist = 0.5 degree (in operational wind speed condition – 70% of basic wind
speed)
3. Allowable Sway = 0.5 degree (in operational wind speed condition – 70% of basic wind
speed)
4. Allowable Horizontal Displacement = H/200 ( H= Tower Height, in operational wind
speed condition – 70% of basic wind speed)
All parts including the tower accessories shall be made of hot dip galvanized steel – min
75 micron thickness.
All nuts, bolts, washers shall be made of hot dip galvanized steel and meet the
requirement as of structural needs.
Tower shall be equipped with a vertical cable tray along the tower height, climbing
ladder, lighting rod and a fall arrester system.
Tower shall be equipped with Aircraft warning light and Air Terminal/Lightning Splitzen
mounting as required by Applicable Laws. (Optional)
Rest platform with safety railing shall be attached on tower are two of 45m and two of
60m tower.
Tower shall be equipped with three of RF antenna brackets (3m pole length) and two
of Microwave brackets (1.5m pole length). See detail requirement in the “PAT Antenna
Mounting Bracket Standard Design Criteria and Requirements”.
Tower supplier shall provide design of typical tower foundation for each type of tower as
follow assumption below:
