Idea’s for Art Therapy classes

Learning Intention-Students will become part of their artwork by bring out


their inner-self. (Their appearance, and how they look as a tree, branching out into the world)

Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out of a fist position,
stretch their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Motivation-Students will be motivated by positive reinforcement and encouragement.


Mini Lesson-See yourself as a tree-If your body was a tree, how
would you look to the world. Discuss with the students.

Guided Activity
1. Look at your paper bag, see yourself as a tree.
2. Lay down your foundation (earth, for growth).
3. Plant your roots, as your toes so you can grow.
4. Attach the trunk of your tree, this is your body.
5. Attach the branches of your tree, these are your hands.
6. Put your leaves on the branches, they are your fingers.
7. Use the polly fill or the yarn to build your nest, this is your hair.
8. Put your bird in the nest, as a sign of friendship and trust

Individual work-Students will work independently, with reinforced


instruction.

Materials needed-Large Brown paper bags, Construction paper for leaves


branches, roots, hands and trunks. Sand will be used for foundation. Stuffing or poly fill in the
colors tan or green and Mod Podge glue. Pencils, makers, and colored pencils. Yarn-yellow,
black, tan, and brown. Scissors…

Summary - Share When the project is complete the students will be able to
express and share with their friends how special their tree is.
Learning Intention-Students will learn emotional art through emotions
Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out of a fist position,
stretch their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Mini Lesson-How are some ways were show emotions? Can we show emotion though
our Art? Can emotion be expressed though words and images?

Guided Activity-By using the Worksheet provide, the students will


draw a word or picture of how they are feeling today.
1. Instructor will show the different Emotions people have. (Words and Images)
2. Student will choose the Emotion they are feeling.
3. On the worksheet provided, the student will create their design.
4. Instructor will show the students the mood color chart.
5. Based on the mood of the student, he or she will choose colors from the chart that meet the
mood of their designed.
6. Demonstrate how to start the project.
7. Review the steps on how to complete this Art project.

Individual work-Students will work independently, with reinforced instruction and


encouragement.

Materials Needed-Hard stock art paper, pencils, Oil Pastels, Crayons, Markers,
and or Water color paint.

Summary - Share When the project is complete the students will be able to
express and share with their friends how they are feeling today.
Learning Intention-How you can express friendship through your art.
Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out of a fist position,
stretch their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Mini-Lesson-Students will make a friend by introducing themselves to their partner


as they ”work together.”

Guided Activity-Students will sit next to a partner and encouraged to “work


together.”
1. Introduce the project theme.
2. Show pictures related to friendship.
3. Student will see verbal and nonverbal reaction to the photos, by their partner.
4. Students will create their own “friendship” collage using cut out images of people.
5. Students will be instructed at the end of making their collage to trace each others hand
onto white artist papers.
6. Students will need to cut out the hand, we will help those in need of help.
7. Students will turn and talk to their partners by asking them questions. What colors do
you like? What is your favorite color, what color don’t you like? They will design
something using those colors to show friendship.
8. When they have completed the coloring and designing of the hands, they will exchange it
with your partner.
9. After the exchange is made, they will glue the hand onto the collage they made.

Group Work-Students will learn to work together as a team with reinforced instruction
and with positive influence.

Materials Needed-White artist paper, cutouts from magazines (people smiling,


couples, people holding hands, people laughing ect..) Glue, Crayons, Markers, Color Pencils, and
Pencils.

Summary - Share When the project is complete the students will be able to
express friendship to one another. They will show their pride in themselves by this act of
kindness.
First one, Butterfly texture Tile, or Page two Butterfly Fields on Canvas

Learning Intention-Students will relate to nature by creating a beautiful butterfly.


Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out in a fist position, stretch
their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Mini Lesson-Students will show a relationship to nature’s beauty by the creation of their
own butterfly.

Guided Lesson-The Instructor will go over the out line of the art project.
1. Every student will get a piece of clay to work with.
2. Every student will use a rolling pin to flatten out the clay.
3. Every student will place their butterfly stencil on the clay.
4. Students will then place the mosaic tiles one at a time, pressing the mosaic tiles into the clay
with pressure using one finger.
5. Students will try to stay with the pattern of the stencil as best as they can.
6. When all the tiles are designed on their clay, they will remove the stencil and let it dry.

Individual Work-Students will work independently with reinforced praise and


encouragement from instructors.

Materials Needed-Rolling Pins, Clay, Stencils of Butterflies, Colorful mosaic tiles, and
your finger.

Summary - Share When the project is complete students will take a walk around the table to
admire the art work of their peers. Each Butterfly will be as unique as the person that
designed them.

Butterfly Fields on Canvas

Learning Intention-Students will relate to nature by creating a beautiful butterfly.


Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out in a fist position, stretch
their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Mini Lesson-Students will show a relationship to nature’s beauty by the creation of their
own butterfly.

Guided Activity - The Instructor will go over the out line of the art project, step by step
first.
1. Instructor will demonstrate step by step for panting on the canvas.
2. Using a paint brush students will paint the bottom half of the canvas with green paint.
Just about 1/4 the way up.
3. Using a paint brush students will paint the top half of the canvas with blue and white
paint. Student will be able to mix the to colors together to make the blue as light as they
wish.
4. Using your black paint, they will create a thick oval shape in the middle of the canvas.
This will be the body of the butterfly.
5. Using you red paint create a small oval shape off the bottom side of the black oval, then
are another on the opposite side. You should have two.
6. Using the orange or yellow paint create a larger oval on the top part of the black oval
and make another one on the opposite side. You should have two.
7. Using your black paint again, make 2 thin lines at the top to the body of the butterfly
one on one side and one on the opposite side. You should have two.
8. Using the colors on your tray that you haven’t used yet, design your butterfly. You can
add dots, lines, circles, small ovals ect…
9. Your sky will be the prefect place to add some light clouds, flying birds, and the sun. In
you grass, you can add some bushes, of just some wiggle lines coming up from the
bottom of the canvas board.

Individual Work-Students will work independently with reinforced praise and


encouragement from instructors.

Materials Needed-Paint, 16X20 Canvas Boards, Paint Brushed, paper towels, water
containers, Easels, and sponge sticks
Summary - Share When the project is complete students will take a walk around the table to
admire the art work of their peers. Each Butterfly will be as unique as the person that
designed them. We will have created a gallery filled with the most beautiful garden of butterflies
the world has ever seen. This will be a Ms. Terry Experience.

Learning Intention: Through the creation of the art process, we can reveal strong feelings
and awareness of ourselves and others. You will see how to manage internal feelings through
unexpected challenges and outcomes. (Weather)
Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out in a fist position, stretch
their hands and fingers in a circler motion.
Mini Lesson-Students will learn personal development and theories about themselves
through weather. How weather plays a role in our mood of the day. Students will create their
concept of a Stormy sky.

By using 3 different sky’s, students will recognize how each one can make them feel on any
specific day.

Guided Activity - Students will create their concept of a stormy sky, by using finger paints
of White, black, red and grey colors. Instructor will go over the outline of the project, before we
begin.
1. Instructor will demonstrate step by step instructions.
2. Students will be shown the color chart with colors needed to complete their sky.
3. Students will be shown how to blend paint effectively.
4. Students will be shown how to experiment with the paint to create a Stormy sky.
5. First we will dip one finger into the black paint and swirl it around on the art paper
6. Next we will choose another color, white, swirl that around the art paper blending this
color with the black, this will give you a grey color in some areas of the painting.
Continue this process until you are satisfied with the out come. Cover the whole Art
paper.
7. Lastly you will choose red. Using your fingers to swirl the red around the art paper.
8. As the paint drys you will see a dark sky, stormy sky, scary sky, or an eerie sky.

Individual Work - Students will wok independently with encouragement and praise.

Summary - When the project is complete the students will be able to express how they would
feel during a dark and gloomy day.

Learning Intention: Through the creation of the art process, we can reveal strong feelings
and awareness of themselves and others. They will see how to manage internal feelings through
unexpected challenges and outcomes. (Weather)
Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out in a fist position, stretch
their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Mini Lesson-Students will learn personal development and theories about themselves
through weather. How weather plays a role in our mood of the day. Students will create their
concept of uniqueness through expression of a Happy sky.

Guided Activity - Students will create their concept of a Bright day with a few clouds in
the sky, by using finger paints of White, yellow, blue, and purple colors. Instructor will go over
the outline of the project, before we begin.

1. Instructor will demonstrate step by step instructions.


2. Students will be shown the color chart with colors needed to complete their sky.
3. Students will be shown how to blend paint effectively.
4. Students will be shown how to experiment with the paint to create a Bright sky.
5. First we will dip one finger into the blue paint and swirl it around on the art paper
6. Next we will choose another color, white, swirl that around the art paper blending this
color with the purple.. Continue this process until you are satisfied with the out come.
Cover the whole Art paper.
7. Lastly you will choose yellow. Using your fingers to swirl the yellow around the art
paper. To much yellow with the blue will make green.
8. Before the paint drys, students may want to use some glitter to brighten up their sky.
9. As the paint drys you will see a bright, welcoming, gleaming, twinkling sky.

Individual Work - Students will wok independently with encouragement and praise.

Summary - When the project is complete the students will be able to express how they feel
during a bright, luminous day.

Learning Intention: Through the creation of the art process, we can reveal strong feelings
and awareness of themselves and others. They will see how to manage internal feelings through
unexpected challenges and outcomes. (Weather)
Warm up-Students will shake their hands, move hands in and out in a fist position, stretch
their hands and fingers in a circler motion.

Guided Activity - Students will create their concept of what fear is to them through the
creation of a fearful sky, by using finger paints of White, red, orange, grey and some black.
Instructor will go over the outline of the project, before we begin.
1. Instructor will demonstrate step by step instructions.
2. Students will be shown the color chart with colors needed to complete their sky.
3. Students will be shown how to blend paint effectively.
4. Students will be shown how to experiment with the paint to create a Fearful sky.
5. First we will dip one finger into the red paint and swirl it around on the art paper
6. Next we will choose another color, orange, swirl that around the art paper blending this
color with the purple.. Continue this process until you are satisfied with the out come.
Cover the whole Art paper.
7. Lastly you will choose white, black and create some grey. Using your fingers to swirl
and blend the colors around the art paper.
8. As the paint drys you will see a Red, firer, blast of color.

Individual Work - Students will wok independently with encouragement and praise.

Summary - When the project is complete the students will be able to express how they feel
when they are fearful of something.
