Give an example of how diversity influences the workplace?

Diversity is generally defined as acknowledging, understanding, accepting, valuing, and


celebrating differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and
mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practices, and public assistance status (Betchoo
2015). The company I was working is a great example of how diversity influenced greatly. It is
an educational institute that has a mission of “Making Mongolian Education as a Global Brand.
We had diverse employees from five different countries with different backgrounds, culture,
perspectives, and abilities. The company takes an advantage of this combination differences as a
potential growth that meets to implement it is mission statement.

What benefits can a diverse workforce provide to an organization?

A benefit of a diverse workforce is how the company is able to embrace and realize diversity to
the workplace. According to the Betchoo (2015) when companies actively assess their handling
of workplace diversity issues, develop and implement diversity plans, there are multiple benefits
provided:

- Increases adaptability

- Broads service range

- Increases variety of viewpoints

- Attracts and retains talent.

What possible ramifications could there be for an organization that does not embrace diversity?

According to the Forbes, company to be success in today’s challenging, globalized economy, it


must not only meet the needs of a multifaceted marketplace, it must respect different cultures,
ideas and philosophies. The organization that does not embrace diversity, there could be
ramifications of no challenging, no innovation and no competitive advantages.

What strategies can managers implement to enhance cultural awareness and overcome
preconceived biases or stereotypes?
As a manager, ones needs to recognize that different backgrounds, cultures and values can lead
to miscommunication, misunderstanding and conflict. Managers should recognize stereotypes
and understand how they function in organizational settings (Robbins, 2015). Some of the
strategies that a manager can implement to enhance cultural awareness and overcome
preconceived biases or stereotypes are learning from the coworker’s culture and listening
effectively.
