IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW

GRANDMASTER

Interviewer: Good afternoon, so we are here in our in depth interview to talk about the
speaking difficulty of students in English language. So now can you share to us, I mean
(1A) what are your experiences in speaking before a class?

Grandmaster: One of my struggles in speaking in English infront of my classmate is I

am afraid to speak and…I am afraid to be corrected because as a normal person or a
normal human being, we commits mistakes nobody is perfect. So in speaking in
English, we’ll, we all know that English is not our…ahmm... main language or national
language so we are comfort…comfortable to speak in our vernaculal…vernaculiar
language so… others… or other students can express there… their selves through
speaking in vernacular… vernaculie… bisaya, Ilonggo, and… many more than we did.

Interviewer: So you mean that you have difficulty in speaking before your class?

Grandmaster: Yes, I have difficulties, because I am afraid to be corrected

grammatically and… to be judge by… my co… classmate.

Interviewer: So (1B) what effective way would you do as a student to educate yourself
to learn English language?

Grandmaster: Well self-study and also I will choose the power of internet. I will search
website specially in google… as one of… search…goooggle… so in google I can
search on how to… or Eng…lish tut… tutorial and on how to pronounce… and by
listening it to podca… audio podcast and video tapes.

Interviewer:So you are using podcast and video tape in educating yourself?

Grandmaster: Yes… s-so that I can know how to pronounce… a specific word… and
what is the correct spelling of the specific word.

Interviewer:Yes we sometimes have difficulties in speaking English language, but then

we are afraid to speak before a class because of the fears that may be a hindrance to
us speaking in a class. So (1C) recall a particular memory wherein you are called to
speak infront? What was the feeling and how did you react?

Grandmaster: Well my first experience is, when I was in grade 4… I was one of the
contestant in the contest, and representing the school for smart talking and… and that
time… the specific venue of our… or the venue of the specific event is at Francisco
Butaban… Bustamante National High School and… we all know that… that was my first
time of speaking infront of many people. So enable for me to speak… and… to fight…
ag… ag… to fight against myyy… stage… freight dara.

Interviewer: So?

Grandmaster: I decided…when speaking… I need to… look at the ceiling so that… I

can avoid to be disturb by… by the audience.

Interviewer: So what was the feeling? How did you react being the participant of the
certain event?

Grandmaster:Well I feel… very nervouis… very nerv…
