Topic: Death penalty in North America.

Nowadays, the crime in the North America is always growing for different reasons and the laws are
very strict for the people responsible. The sentence of death penalty divides a nation, some people
support it as the maximum punishment for their actions and others as a violation of the life and also
mockery towards God.

The judges put to the penalty of death such the maximum punishment for the actions of a person.
The inmate will be judged by a state court and the governor of the state will have the last word. At
the federal level a person can be sentenced to death for murder, treason, espionage, genocide or
war crimes. For example, one case of that is the case of Mrs. Beets, she arrived in the execution
room carrying the sentence for the death of two of her five husbands, whom she murdered in Texas.
Also, the method used by default is lethal injection although there are states that offer alternative
methods like “the electric chair, the lethal gas, the hangings and the execution”. For example, the
history of Jean Allen, she was the first woman sentenced to death in Oklahoma. Allen has received
a lethal injection for shooting his partner in 1988 with bullets.

On the other hand, the sentences are not always the correct ones, it can be considered as violation
of the life of this human judged. The results published in PNAS by a group of researches indicate
that 4.1% of death sentences in the US are due to judicial errors. A journalistic investigation of the
Chicago tribune denounced that the wrong man had been executed: DeLuna was not the murderer
of Wanda Lopez and his only mistake was to be at the worst moment in the worst circumstances.
Also, United States is one of the countries where the death penalty is accepted, the newspaper “The
Comercio” publishes cases about the innocence of the condemned. For example, Geroge Stinney Jr.
a teenager of 14 years old who was sentenced to die in the electric chair for allegedly killing 2 girls
in North Carolina. 70 years later it was discovered that George Stinney Jr was innocent.

It’s interesting too that for many religious the fact of taking the life of someone represents a
mockery towards God. In the bible it is established that God is the only one who can take our lives.
For example, according to the bible we don’t have the rights to harm our lives or the lives of others,
our creator is the only one. Also, the person who takes life and is capable taking the life of others is
violating God’s commandments. Such as the fifth commandment that says “Will not kill” is being
violated.

In conclusion, the death penalty would be acceptable as long as their crimes are proven, and that
these people don’t have principles, this mean that these people don’t have respect for any human,
that is, they don’t mind harming to innocent for satisfying their behavior problems.
