COMMENTS ON STRUCTURAL CALCULATIONS REPORT

PART A : PRINCIPLE FOR APROVAL

Item 1. The purpose of the structural calculations report is not JUST for formal submittals .

Item 2. Its main intent is to show that the structural elements of the building comply with accepted Codes as
per your earlier Design Basis Report.

Item 3. Also , we would like to reiterate that the results of the Structural Calculations should match with
your Structural Drawings submitted before meriting approval on your Struc Calculations as well as Drawings.

Item 4. Please provide as an introduction of your report , the following :

Breakdown of the Superimposed Dead Loads on the Roof ( Ceiling , Screed , Finish , etc. )
List of the Equipment Loads to be used in the Roof ( Package Units , water Tank , etc. )
Parameters for Wind and Seismic Loads to be used for ETABS Model ( as you mentioned in your
earlier submitted Design Basis Report ).
NOTE : ALL THESE IN ITEM 4 TO BE MENTIONED IN THE STRUCTURAL GENERAL NOTES

PART B. Since this is a flat slab design , the following should be shown from your SAFE calculations :

Item 5. Please include SAFE output to show the slab thicknesses you used in the drawings.

Item 6. Cracked analysis of the slab to show LONG TERM DEFLECTION , not just ELASTIC ( Working )
Deflections

Item 7. This Long Term Deflection should be within your Allowable Deflection Limit or else you have to adjust
your Slab Thicknesses. By the way , what is your allowable deflection limit as per your Code used ? ( IT IS
NOT MENTIONED IN YOUR CALCULATIONS )

Item 8. Flat Slab Design should be checked against PUNCHING SHEAR . Please Include the Punching Shear
Ratio Values in your SAFE Outputs . If there is Punching Shear Failure , please ensure to include calculations
for drop panel or band beam required for the column zones aside from calculations for the additional column
reinforcements.

Item 9. Please include SAFE Printout for the Slab Strip Reinforcements ( indicate whether mm2 or cm2 ) in
both directions .

Item 10. Your Roof Slab SAFE Model need to show your Equipment Loads and Openings , coordinated with
your MEP Department.
Item 11. Your Roof Framing Plan Drawing should show indication of the locations as well as as the weight of
your equipment / thickness of Equipment Plinth on the Roof.

Item 12. Your units used should be consistent if KN or Tonsf ( We would prefer KN as per your Design Basis
Report )

Item 13. Your frame should be analysed with ETABS ( as per your Design Basis Report ) to show the
adequacy of the Design of your columns against Combinations of not just Gravity Loads ( Dead Load and Live
Load ) but also Wind and Seismic Loads ( as per parameters in your Design Basis Report ).

Item 14. You need to submit to us a softcopy of your *.FDB file ( SAFE )and *.EDB file ( ETABS ) to warrant
approval of your calculations . in CD or at least printed hard copy of your`SAFE model *.F2K file and your
ETABS model *.$ET file included in your calcs report just for us to check your load combinations as you
mentioned in your Design Basis Report .

Item 15. Please include in your SAFE Model , output for shear reinforcing not just longitudinal reinforcing for
BEAMS. Ensure to double check reinforcing for critically loaded beams by other manual calcs or spreadsheet.

PART C.

Item 16. NOTE : you have not provided any calculations for R.C. Column Design in this submitted report.
Please provide ETABS calculations or any other calculations to show Design of your Columns , satisfying the
Load Combinations from DL , LL , Wind and Seismic Loads as per your Design Basis Report . This column
design should show the Column size and reinforcement ( vertical and links ) of critically loaded columns as
per your Structural Drawing Column Sched.

Item 17. Please provide ETABS or SAFE output for the Foundation Reactions ( not just from DL and LL but as
a result of Wind and Seismic )

Item 18. NOTE : you have not provided any calculations for R.C. Footings in this submitted report.
Please provide calculations from SAFE or structural spreadsheets ( as you mentioned in your Design Basis
report ) for your isolated footings showing compressive strength , allowable soil bearing capacity nd clear
cover used .

Item 19. Footing Calculations you will submit should show the flexural reinforcements required , punching
shear and beam shear check as well as soil base pressure check not to exceed allowable soil capacity.

Item 20. ALSO , TAKE NOTE that your calculations and drawings for Isolated Footings will be REJECTED if
you will not resubmit along with attached copy of the GEOTECHNICAL REPORT.
Item 21. Please ensure to include design outputs for Isolated Footings that ARE CRITICALLY LOADED

Item 22. Please ensure to show the following in your footing details and foundation plan :
 Clear cover for footings should be minimum 75mm (to be shown in the typical footing detail)
 Waterproofing system ( as per geotechnical report )
 Type Of concrete whether OPC or SRC ( as per geotechnical report )
 Minimum Cement Content
 Maximum Water Cement Ratio
 Soil Bearing Capacity ( as per Geotechnical Report )

NOTE : ALL THESE IN ITEM 22 TO BE MENTIONED IN THE STRUCTURAL GENERAL NOTES

Item 22. After complying through with ALL the ITEMS ABOVE , your structural engineer along with your
STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS AND LAPTOP SHOWING HIS 3D MODEL should seek appointment to meet us in
your most convenient time here in our office. This should be done at your earliest.

WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT ALL THE ITEMS MENTIONED ABOVE SHOULD BE COMPLIED WITH IN THE
SUCCEEDING SUBMITTAL TO MERIT APPROVAL.

Yours Truly ,

ENG’R WILFREDO CORRALES ENGHOY
