Severe Weather Underway Checklist

Time Procedure Log Entry

 Inform Master and Staff Captain.

 Consider changing Watch Condition to Yellow or Red 

 Consider closing open decks completely or partly. 

 Place nets on swimming pools, and consider draining. 

 Stabilizers out. 

 Check and secure mooring lines, anchors, fair-leads, weathertight doors

 Check and secure sports deck (ping pong tables, netting etc.)

 Check and secure sun chairs, garbage bins, and other loose equipment.

 Check and secure side shell doors, establish patrols, bridge to monitor via CCTV

 Post proper signs on doors leading to the open decks

Monitor ship's side continuously.

LOG: Note significant measures in the Log Book. 

 INFORM AND KEEP INFORMED:

Engine control room.

Hotel Manager / Purser’s desk

Facilities Manager

Open Deck Manager / Sports Supervisor

Cruise Director

Passengers and crew over the PA system.

 CONSIDER:

Blind port-holes on lower decks. 

Improve stability by draining pools or ballasting. 

Transfer fuel for increased heeling moment.

Optimize grey water storage for increased stability.

Secure outboard canvases of the lifeboats.

Engage rough sea mode (VI-Class only).

Course and speed change to minimize risk of damages.

Set Port Condition, if applicable. 

Details about any items on checklist that are not completed are to be recorded in Deck Log Book.

Note: Procedures marked with a  require a log entry.
