Announcer: (Offstage) The most important event in all of history is about to take place. God has given
instructions and Heaven is in motion. Earth is unprepared for the entrance of the King of Kings and the
Lord of Lords but the Angels in Heaven are obedient to the Father.
Angel 1: Yes, another one. He just got back from telling Zacharias that Elizabeth is going to have
John Baptist.
Angel 4: No, silly, we only sing for Jesus. So, what did Zacharias say when Gabriel told him?
Angel 1: (Luke 1: 11-20) “Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side
of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon
him. But the angel said to him, Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and
your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will
have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight
of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the
Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel
to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn
the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,
to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. And Zacharias said to the Angel, How
shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years. And the
angel answered and said to him, I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and
was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute
and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe
my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
Angel 3: And, this is the man chosen to be the father of John, the proclaimer of the Messiah?
Angel 1: Soon.
Angel 2: I still don’t like it. It’s not fair. He didn’t do anything.
Angel 2: I still don’t like it. He didn’t do anything. Why does he have to go down there…couldn’t
one of us go?
Angel 2: Time?
Angel 4: Not that again. We know you don’t understand time but I don’t have time to explain it
to you now.
Angel 1: Gabriel’s back from telling Mary that she’s going to be the mother of the Messiah.
Angel 2: Read us the report. I hope she believed more than Zacharias. Come on what are you
waiting for, we want to hear it.
Angel 1: (Luke 1: 26-38) “Now in the sixth month the Angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of
Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the
house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in the Angel said to her,
Rejoice highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women! But
when she saw him, she was troubled at his saving and considered what manner of
greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found
favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and
shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and
the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the
house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. Then Mary said to the
angel, How can this be, since I do not know a man? And the angel answered and said to
her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow
you; therefore, also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now
indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now
the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.
Then Mary said, Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your
word. And the angel departed from her.”
Angel 4: The Lord picked well when he picked Mary. She’s a brave and believing person. If only
everyone were like her.
Angel 1: (Matt 1: 18b-21) “After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came
together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a
just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away
secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you
Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring
forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
Angel 4: It’s something they have. I can’t explain it to you now. We have to go to choir practice.
Angel 2: I mean has it been a very long time since God….you know…since he….
Angel 4: Oh, you mean since God spoke to his people like he’s doing now.
Angel 2: Exactly.
Angel 4: A very long time but this time is the most important.
Angel 4: The King of Kings wrapped in swaddling clothes. They put the God of the universe in a
manger where animals eat.
All: Even the stars announce the birth of the King of Kings
Angel 3: It is. There are the shepherds now. See how they live out in the fields with their sheep
not knowing the King of Kings is born. No one cares for them.
Angel 1: Perhaps. (Luke 2: 8-13) “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in
the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord
stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly
afraid. Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of
David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a
Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the
angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:”
All: (Luke 2: 14) “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Angel 2: Look! They’re going to Bethlehem. I wonder will they understand this great gift.
Angel 1: A marvelous gift.
All: The Messiah, Christ the Lord, come to save the people from their sins.
Angel 4: Wise men from the east. They’ve come to worship the King of Kings.
Angle 1: They saw the star and they knew it was a divine sign from God.
Angel 3: See, there’s Joseph now moving Jesus and Mary away from Herod.
Angel 3: Joseph’s a very special man or God wouldn’t have picked him to watch Jesus.
Angel 4: And the wise men?
Angel 1: Warned in a dream not to go back to Herod and to go home another way.
Angel 3: How long has it been now since that first Christmas?
Angel 3: Not them. Mankind. Do you suppose they believe? Do they understand the gift they
were given?
Angel 4: They have Christmas all over the world. But, look what they’re done to it.
Angel 2: Who is this Santa person in the little red suit? And, what do flying reindeer and elves
have to do with anything?
Angel 3: What is a Happy Holiday? And, what’s kissing under mistletoe all about?
Angel 4: Everyone’s telling everyone else what they want for Christmas. Don’t they get it? Only
God can give them what they need. And, what’s a holiday sale anyway? They’re so
greedy.
Angel 2: Where?
Angel 1: Don’t you hear them? They’re singing about Jesus being born.
Angel 3: Oh, those people, look they’re giving clothes to the poor.
Angel 4: And feeding the hungry.
Angel 2: And giving toys to poor children. What do you suppose it all means?
Angel 1: These do. Listen. They understand the gift. The marvelous gift.
All: The will of God is to save mankind from sin through Christ the Lord.
Announcer: (offstage Luke 19: 9-10) “And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house
because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save
that which was lost.’”
(Ephesians 2: 8-10) “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
