Evening Prayers

O gracious Light, pure brightness of the ever-living Father
in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as I come
to the setting of the sun, and my eyes behold the evening
light, I sing Your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
Your glory fills the whole world.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, I confess that I am often swept up in the
tide of my generation. I fail in my calling to be holy, set
apart for Your divine purpose. I live more in apathy born of
fatalism than in passion born of hope. I dream more of
privilege and benefits than of service and sacrifice. I try to
speak Your name without relinquishing my glory, without
nourishing my soul, and without relying wholly on Your
grace. Help me make room in my heart and life for You.
Forgive me, revive me, and reshape me in Your image.
Amen.

through the day, giving thanks for God’s mercy, grace,
and forgiveness that are yours in Christ.)

A Lenten Guide to Prayer and Scripture
The season of Lent is not only a time for giving things up. It
is also a time for embracing new practices to nourish our
spiritual lives. Two such practices are prayer and Scripture
reading. This guide provides you with daily prayers (front
and back) and daily Scripture readings (inside). May you
faithfully embrace this discipline through the Lenten season,
that you might emerge on the other side with new holy
habits for the rest of your life.
Morning Prayers
New every morning is Your love, great God of light, and all
day long You are working for good in the world. Stir up in
me the desire to serve You, to live peacefully with my
neighbors, and to devote each day to Your Son, my Savior,
Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Midday Prayers
God of mercy, this midday moment of rest is Your
welcome gift. Bless the work I have begun, make good its
defects, and let me finish it in a way that pleases You. Grant
this through Christ, my Lord. Amen.
